Has anyone used K-Seal?

Post by Felim »

https://www.mazdarotaryparts.com/59612- ... TER-SEALER

I have a (presumably) slow coolant leak that I cannot find. The coolant needs about 500ml top up every 6 weeks or so. Can't see any stains on my drive and I can't find any evidence of a leak underneath or in the engine bay.

So, has anyone tried this? MRP seem to have done some rotary specific testing and deem it compatible.

Sealed up my holed rad on track day and fixed a cracked head on a vx220 infront of my very eyes that i tracked the next day.

DON’T USE IT

It not only seals the leak for a short period, but it also blocks the water galleries
We use it on bus and truck cooling systems as a temporary stop gap until we can fix it properly but when the engines are stripped down we find the water galleries and hoses are congested causing poor circulation.

The alternatives are.
1) Put up with the coolant useage
2) Strip and re-build your engine

Faced with the above you are probably better off trying it and if it dies at sometime anyway you then have option 2.

Topping up every six odd weeks seems a small price to pay when your topping up oil on a weekly basics, haha

The problem is that the cooling system relies on pressure to function.

If even a tiny leak is reducing the working pressure then this could cause serious issues.

I would do a UV trace to pinpoint the leak and focus on the permanent repair but if this wasn't possible in the short term then a small amount of K-Seal might achieve some level of protection without causing further problems.

i used it to seal a cracked block (about 6 inched long between core plugs) on my suzuki offroader...it was thrashed mercilessly and overheated often and was still dry 2 years later,i sold it 18 months back and its now been exported to norway, and no one has mentioned a water leak yet.it the best sealer ive ever used.

It's a temporary fix, that is all.

As with lots of temp fixes, you can create extra work by having to flush the living he'll out of everything when you get round to repairing properly later down the line.

Of all the coolant temp fixes, k seal appears to get the best reviews.

In the world of engines, especially rotary, nothing is "permanent" and "temporary" can be just as long...

I've never known a K-Seal "repair" to fail down the line. It either works or it doesn't.

If it doesn't work with a small does then adding more won't make it work and will cause you more grief in other areas.
