Has anyone made a diy air scoop like racing beats?

It looks a simple enough shape, and are those baffles on the genuine ones actually needed?
Just thought I'd ask

The most important part of the shape is the rain water trap and drain, which makes it much more complex than it looks.

I built my own out of some flexible metal tubing

It was hideous and I am 99% certain did NOTHING to aid the performance of the car :)
