Aluminium bracket fabrication

Post by Dr. FrankenRex »

Hey peeps.

Odd request, but I have got a pair of Morimoto D2S projectors to go in to my headlights. I am fine trimming down the shrouds and so forth, but am in need of someone who can design and produce an aluminium mounting plate for them. Paid, obviously, but the manufacture of such a thing is beyond my expertise (short of butchering a slab of ali at least...)

So, anybody got dem mad skillz, yo - and willing to get in touch?

I know there are a few people who would be interested in buying a few if it all works out, so there's that option too...

Are we talking CNC milling or just precision bending of a sheet of ali?

Cutting more than anything. The bracket would be flat, made of circa 2mm sheet

See if anyone from the OC (like Gary) can do it first. If not then I'll PM you the details of my friend who runs a company that can do this.

Might be a few hundred quid unless you already have the designs mind. As a one off job it'll likely be time consuming relative to the return.

If its flat 2mm plate then sandwich it between two bits of 10mm ply with the design drawn on the ply. drill all the holes first (which will be clean without burrs) then cut the shape out with a jig saw.
Hand file and fine emery the edges and that's you done.

Pritstick on each side of the ally will also help to make sure it doesn't move, as will bolts with washers through the holes, at which point you can remove the clamps for easier access with the saw.

I use 6mm ply as it's stiff enough and there's less error if you cut at a slight angle.

Dude can you size what you need? If you can and email me and I'll CAD it, then you can get it waterjet cut, which is amazing finish!

Cheers
