Cup Holder appreciation

Post by Ranjan »

Can I just say that the man would decided to put the cup holders where they are in the 8 needs a hearty pat on the back.

Yesterday morning, bought a large café latte from the Nespresso boutique on the Champs Elysées and headed for central London via Chunnel. Seven hours later arrived at my destination with just a little bit of coffee left in my mug, but it was still piping hot! Unbelievable!!

Whoever you are, I salute you =D>

Ranjan.
p.s., the journey would have been a lot quicker but for having to stop for fuel; three fill ups for 319 miles! My F12 is better on fuel for heaven’s sake

It's burning extra fuel to keep your coffee warm! Can't have your cake and eat it :P

Oooh agree whole heartedly here!

Went to the AGM a couple of years back, was a 3 hour journey for me, so I stopped half way to grab a coffee. As the coffee was still hot I decided to set off and wait till it cooled down a bit before swigging away.

Completely forgot I had the coffee and an hour and a half later when I got to the hotel I still hot cup of coffee to drink up!

Only downside of the cup holder placement is cold drink on a long journey, but minor detail!

Three fillups to 319 miles? I could do that and still have a 1/4 tank left?!

To be pedantic I may have stopped 3 times but altogether 2 actual full tanks; it was spirited driving but still 319!

I think there is something wrong with my car; when I bought it and drove it home I brimmed the tank and blasted it round the "B" roads back and that only lasted 147 miles!

Nigel, take your reasonable MPG and shove it where the sun doesn't shine ;)

Ranjan, those MPG figures are pretty appalling. On track I've regularly seen single digit figures, but a bit of motorway stuff should see at least 240 miles from a tank. Something might well be wrong there, and I'll leave the spin doctors to comment further on the potential causes.

Back on topic: heated cup holders rule, there's nothing like road tripping with a continuous supply of heated beverage :D
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

The heat that the trans tunnel produces is actually pretty astounding. On a cold day you don't even need the heater

I’ve made the mistake of putting my phone and e-cigarette in there on a long run, they were uncomfortably warm to handle!

The hot trans tunnel is a god send in the winter!

I was thinking there was something wrong with my transmission tunnel insulation
nice to hear that piping hot in the armrest cupholders is normal

still I might take option to add some more material when I'm next under there

Because our manifolds are a little out of the way, I may see if the publishers want to do an RX-8 Armrest Edition.

Nick,

You may be onto something here.

Two holders could act as a two-burner stove; onions frying in one while you have some mince frying in the other; genius idea. I will fund the publishing if we can come up with some decent recipes.
Obviously, you could warm up soup, but some cooking ideas would be brilliant.

Well done Nick!

Ranjan.

Noticed when taking apart the centre console that my 04 had no insulation behind the cupholders but my 07 has a pretty thick silver blanket around them, perhaps Mazda had some feedback on earlier models.

My old RX8 had no aircon, wore jeans once in the summer and vowed never to again.
