Has anyone considered having a remote start kit fitted to their 8?.. I like to give the car a good 5 - 10 mins to warm up and if i can do that using an App on my phone it would certainly be more convenient .. I used to have a similar kit on my MX5 and was great in the winter as it would keep doors locked to prevent theft off the driveway etc and wouldn't start if left in gear.
As the RX8 seems a more sensitive beast it would seem even more practical? I'm aware these kits used to be 'illegal' in certain circumstances / counties so wondered what peoples thoughts were?
I know that Viper seems to be the market leader and offer a vast number of kits from fobs to Apps for your smart phone that offer security, OBD monitoring and remote starts etc. https://www.viper.com/car/remotestart/

Re: Remote Start
I think the general feeling is that there is no need to wait until it is warm to use it, and some feel this may cause damage. Just keep it under 4k revs until warm.
Taking the above onboard not sure this gains anything.

Re: Remote Start
Why would you want to even wait for a warm up? .. just drive off and keep revs below 4k until up to temp, unless you are afraid of the cold

Re: Remote Start
Trouble is my commute to work on a good day is only 10 mins so gives me very little time to warm the car up so felt an extra 5 mins warm up on the drive would only help with engine care?
Was generally giving the car 5 mins to warm on idle and 5 mins under 4K rpm until oil temp is up? Am I being to cautious??

Re: Remote Start
Warm up on idle does much more harm than good, as it increases the time the engine is running over-rich.

Re: Remote Start
You've been given the answer. 10 mins drive to work is fine if you're keeping the revs low until the oil is warm (which is well after the engine temp needle has settled). Best not to leave it idling to warm up.nintenjo wrote: ↑Fri Sep 28, 2018 10:01 pmTrouble is my commute to work on a good day is only 10 mins so gives me very little time to warm the car up so felt an extra 5 mins warm up on the drive would only help with engine care?

And good on you for driving it daily rather than having a boring commuter car.
Give it a fun, long hot blast on the weekend. And worry about it less
