I've used Clarke / machine mart for all my big bits of kit, press , engine crane gearbox jack etc they've all been fine with occasional use over the last 10 years plus you can get spares for the hydraulics easily
the Clarke folding engine crane is a particularly good bit of kit thats been all over the country loaned to family and friends at it folds down to fit into a small hatchback

Teng Tools used to support our community Motorcycle Maintenance Workshop.

The kit was always pretty good and, on the odd occasion that it didn't survive the abuse, it was replaced under warranty.

+1 for Teng. Good quality gear. Gedore is a high quality brand, but not that much cheaper than Snap-on. They do have a better value range under Carolus, but may also be a bit pricey.

I used to know of a supplier for 3M industrial products. I may have a record of them, I'll have to look!

Another vote for Halfords pro tools
Bahco is another good brand if you can find it over here. Massively popular in Scandinavia

for hand tools have a look at draper professional.

good warrenty, and ive NEVER managed to break any of their stuff, even undoing siezed brake caliper bolts on a lorry (with limited access) using a 1/2” ratchet with a length of scaffold pole on the end...

For low entry jacks, you can do a lot worse than Clarke. Admittedly I haven't used them on a daily basis, they tend to get used for a day then stored for a few months, but I can't fault them. I've got the racing jack for track days and the one linked below is the big boy that gets used at home.

https://www.machinemart.co.uk/p/clarke- ... 1-5t-quic/
To Do List: HKS CAMP2 install; cruise control; new exhaust; detail paintwork, possible respray

Done: Hayward Rotary rebuild and stage 2 port; Racing Beat ARBs, adjustable front droplinks, ram air intake and lightened flywheel; Exedy stage 1 clutch; Eibach Pro-Kit lowering springs; Koyo radiator; heated front screen; EBC redstuff pads all round

Having finally got planning permission to convert the old storeroom into a garage/workshop, I've bitten the bullet and ordered one of these
https://twinbusch.co.uk/product_info.php?products_id=4
Image*
Managed to get the price down to £1750.00 + VAT, which I suspect is more than my 8 is worth, but still pretty good given the usually premium for everything in NI.

The supplier will import it now and hold it in their local warehouse until the building work is complete, which means that the price is guaranteed despite any Brexit fallout.

* It doesn't come with the Audi :(

Very jealous Dave. Was crawling under the car yesterday thinking how many trackdays I'd sacrifice to save for one of those. Very nice sir. :thumleft:

I'd looked at that sort of thing but given the price difference and the space available, plus access to 3-phase, the choice was a no-brainer.

Funny given the subject of this topic, as I get a semi just thinking of having the lift up and working ;)

I'm getting some serious height envy.

We're having to raise the height of the walls, after removing the existing flat roof, then fitting "raised tie" roof trusses for a pitched roof, all to provide clearance for the working envelope for the lift - with raised car.

That's why we needed to choose the lift up front, as (much of) the structure will be designed around it.

Good news, the installation guy drilled some test holes in the existing floor and is confident that it's strong enough for the full capacity of the 3.6T lift.

Their g/box stands are only rated to 0.5 ton which is a shame, ideally want a min 1 ton rating.
How big of a gearbox are you planning on working on?! 500kg should be plenty, mind that's just it's safe working load, it'll lift more than that if you're naughty.

For hand tools I abuse Teng and Bluepoint at work (fixing ships) and they love it. Halfords professional at home for working on cars and trucks, the only thing I've ever broken was a 17mm socket after some serious abuse...

Costco do some nice low profile ally trolley jacks, they move fast on the handle just don't have a foot kick.

If you don't have an outside compressor shed get the rotary screw. Much much quieter and a nicer noise than a piston type. Better for high demand too - there's one at my work supplying some huge consumers and it just blows and blows.
