Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
I know this topic has been beaten to death, and it seems the general consensus is to use any semi-syn 10w40 oil.
I came across this oil today, Millers Oils CRO 10w-40 Competition Running In Mineral Engine Oil - 5 Litres:
https://www.opieoils.co.uk/p-115257-mil ... e-oil.aspx
For around £25 including P&P it seems like a pretty good deal (once you use the 10% discount code). Has anyone used this so called 'competition' mineral oil by millers? Does anyone here use mineral oil to lubricate their engine or do most use semi-synthetic?

You do know that's running in oil? It's meant to be cheap because you can only use it for a few hundred miles.....

Comma x flow is what my car has and compression is good.
Very emotive question though and everyone has a different opinion.
I just kept with what previous owner used.
I do premix as well.

I thought Millers Trident was now a brand rather than just the single product.
As such, there are products within the brand which are suitable and many more that aren't.

I've been using millers 10/40 SS for almost four years now with zero issues. Some specialists recommend it

I could have sworn the nano drive was a full synthetic and that's why I never bought it.

Re: Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
Depends which one you buy. Some of it is fully synth, like the CFS 10w50 NT+ like what I'm running atm.
Also there are many debates on which oil is the best.
None of which have that running-in oil in them.

Is there a link on this forum for lubrication requirements e.g. Synthetic & Mineral?

Re: Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
Always have run Miller's oils in my cars for the last 20 years and always the competition oils. In the RX8 5w40 CFS NT. 10w50 in my opinion would be too thick when hot unless turbocharged and there was more heat to deal with.

Re: Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
The Millers 10w50 CFS NT is listed as being a suitable replacement for when you would otherwise run 10w40 ... for, reasons.
It's the weight that RRevs stock so I'd assume that this particular oil is okay for our applications.

Shell helix 5hx 15w/40 mineral for me as the car seems to like it and is changed 3rd month even if it's hardly used! Use protect R in the tank too! Had anyone used the redline race 2 stoke?

Re: Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
To quote the Oil 101 thread which I just read again:
I note the word "theoretically" however, from reading these forums, I thought it is simply not done in the RX-8 because the benefits are minor for this particular engine but the effect of knock severe. Is this correct?Premixing can marginally lower the octane rating of the petrol in your tank. If you choose to premix you should seriously consider using a premium unleaded if you do not already - this will ensure your mix is as knock-resistant as possible, and the PCM can theoretically advance the ignition timing further for a better burn.

Re: Best engine oil for the RX8 231?
I would contest ANY auto ignition advancing that happens with our PCMs, deviating from the set ignition map that is.
Our seals are far too exposed and fragile to get anywhere near where knock would occur. The ignition is set quite safe, and there it stays.
The cars can't detect what quality of fuel is sloshing around its tank to work out what to set the ignition to.
To rely on the knock sensor would pretty much be too late.
