Note that you're quite restricted in choice, since the S1 catbacks don't fit the R3, without major modification.

Why the Japspeed sports cat?

Mind you if money was no object then I would go for a Full Custom Build Hayward & Scott Exhaust System that cost me £2,575 including Fit on my GT86

I’ve got the Milltek cat back too, as above. Bought it used, I’m 50/50 about selling it on or fitting it, or at least bolting it on to see what it sounds like in person.

Kopite72, do you still have the cat on yours in that clip?

This is interesting! What triggers the valve system? What’s the difference in noise when open or closed? Also we need to see a video of this exhaust running!

Nope 8) Rotaries are exempt from emissions testing in Ireland. Dave can you bring your car down south for the NCT ( MOT) or must you have it done in NI since technically NI is part of the UK? I'm assuming you have to have it done in the North but curious all the same...

I see you're in Wokingham, I have the Petitt catback on my R3 and am only in Maidenhead if you wanted to hear it in person.

I need MOT, as within the UK. However, NI is different from the rest of the UK in that MOT's are done at DVA Centres* not garages as (apparently) they don't trust the garages over here.

This has both disadvantages and advantages...

- There are no "friendly" DVA Centres (that I've found)
+ The DVA Centres have their own interpretation of the MOT rules. Which currently means that they only do the emissions test at idle, and not "fast idle". This doesn't help with decats but it does mean that you're not having to battle with the PCM that won't hold a fast idle for 60 seconds on no load, without blipping the throttle - which is the most common cause of RX8 emissions test failure in the rest of the UK.

Hmmm that's interesting Dave. Here in the Republic we have NCT centres but as you say garages can't do NCT's which for me is a good thing. The NCT centres here are massive and really top notch, you have designated rooms where you can watch you're car going through every stage of the NCT which imo is very good. The throughput of cars is huge and these centers are open til late in to the evening and even on Sundays. It really is an excellent system. It always makes me smile when I get the pass cert from the tester and I look at the emission section

I'm guessing this will come in around the £800-900 mark which for an active exhaust isn't bad, I will receive one later this week and get it fitted If I'm happy then it'll be added to my shop and most likely the first one (Test one) will be sold off with a substantial discount.

I'd be interested to know what the discount might be then I'll talk to my bank manager in-doors to see if possible. PM me when you are happy and know the discount you'd be happy to offer.

Cheers

Interesting option...... as im looking for a cat back. Interested to know noise levels, system weight etc. Is there a R3 fitment option?

Milltek catback with their hi flow cat. I’m looking at this exhaust having listened to many different ones. For those that have this setup what is the volume like? How does it compare to stock? Is it antisocial? Are there some other exhausts I should be looking at? I’m trying to avoid chavtastic sounding exhausts and the Milltek seems to sound best to me at the moment.

I have the Pettit (Milltek) catback with a BHR high flow cat (so it will probably sound pretty much the same as with the Pettit high flow). It is loud when you want it to be (very different to and a lot louder than stock  ), it is not anti-social when you don't want it to be - at low revs it is quieter with a nice deep burble ... my neighbours have actually commented on how good it sounds if I do rev it outside and they weren't being sarcastic. I really like the tone personally, you can certainly hear it on the motorway but it doesn't drone or ever get annoying. On top of that, the tail pipes really fill the surrounds nicely, so much better than the original pea shooter tail pipes. I say go for it, my only regret was that I didn't have it put on a lot sooner. The only other catback I've heard that sounds as good is the Borla. The Racing Beat is quality but too quiet in my opinion.

If you can get to the Surrey/Cobham meet next Wednesday evening I'll be happy to demonstrate it for you. :thumright:

That sounds good. I would love to get to the meet but it’s the other side of London on a work day so could be challenging. For the exhaust as long as the noise is not excessive below 4krpm then that would work well for me! Do you get pops and bangs with your setup?
