Re: Thumb Ratchets
I have a set of three, they are barely used, but on the jobs I do use them for there is nothing better. Especially useful in the restricted engine bays of MR cars.
I also have some S-shaped, Swan neck and half moon obstruction spanners. Also barely used but invaluable when needed.
Particularly useful in engine mounts and manifolds
Granted though, I do have a tool addiction

Re: Thumb Ratchets
I bought one of these from ebay for £7 a few years ago and it gets used for everything. I didn't even replace my breaker bar when it, er, broke as this does it all. Highly recommended

Re: Thumb Ratchets
I got a quality ratchet from Machine Mart a little while back, not extendable but about twice as long as my old ratchet, and it's got a rotating head, which is immensely useful. So far between this and my impact wrench, I've not found myself in need of a breaker bar.

Re: Thumb Ratchets
More tools, more tools, go, go, go. I'm the sort of person who has 5 socket sets (1 mixed 3/8 and 1/2 full set of both metric and imperial, a 1/2 metric set, a 3/8 metric set, a 1/2 imperial set and a 1/2 Metric impact set) plus loads of odd sockets and 4 1/4 sets mixed together.

Re: Thumb Ratchets
Hi,
I'm Dan, and I am a tool addict too. It's been 2 weeks since my last tool purchase and I'm struggling.
I have loads of weird and wonderful tools. I follow the theory that if I need something once, I will likely need it again so I will buy it. I recently purchased two acrow props for house renovation and have proved this theory twice over with them when my chimney nearly collapsed...

Re: Thumb Ratchets
Me too. I think I went a bit too far when I bought a blasting cabinet to do my calipers. Turned out I needed a bigger compressor too. I haven't used the cabinet since. I'm sure I will at some point but it's not the sort of thing that sits out the way on a shelf! Oh, and it resulted in me putting a drill bit through my finger whilst adding a modification :-(DanBass wrote:Hi,

Re: Thumb Ratchets
Ouch. The only time recently I haven't followed that theory is needing a hydraulic press, but it was literally just lack of space that prevented it, and I now have plans to massively increase the size of the garage...

Re: Thumb Ratchets
I think I need one of those Sidewinder wrenches in my life...
Also Screwfix might have cocked up slightly with the one they supplied me - I ordered £140 worth of saw, but got given £320 worth of saw. Naturally I kept my gob shut about that until I got home
Also this. I recently insisted on buying an electric mitre saw, which Soph couldn't believe I needed until she saw how much use it got when laying a new floor and skirting in the office.DanBass wrote:I follow the theory that if I need something once, I will likely need it again so I will buy it.

Re: Thumb Ratchets
I confess I'm also a tool addict - perhaps we need our own thread
My new neighbour has learnt there aren't many tools that I don't have. He was trying to drill through a railway sleeper to install some lighting and burnt out his cordless drill, having borrowed my better quality cordless drills he returned 5 min later slightly concerned they might go the same way so did I have a mains drill? Oh yes I do......
It destroyed it One of the best tools I've bought!!

Re: Thumb Ratchets
Well I bought a 2nd hand welder to teach my son and I to weld.
Was an excuse to spend almost double what I paid for the welder on welding related tools
Welding magnets, a selection of clamps, gloves, sleeves, masks, specialist pliers
Oh and about 10 kilos of Mild steel offcuts for practicing before we set about the floors and sills on son's Spitfire
Next payday is a plasma cutter
