I saw this because I am struggling to fully seat the screws in the aluminium V on the front of the 192. I've got a mini ratchet but it is still too big and at the wrong angle. I've not bought these tools but love a gadget!

What I have bought and has been delivered is this:

The 192 is ceramic coated and after the snow and ice it is grim. I am waiting until early next week to wash it because it is flipping cold. Then I can give this blower a welly.
Find a small ring key that fits the hex of the screwdriver bit and push the end into the screw head tedious but it works. Alternatively use small cable ties or small ribbed push in “rivets” as per original.

Amazon cheaper than eBay and no import fees despite coming from USA.

Screwdrivers for tight spaces. Will use them in the stainless steel screws holding the shiny V to the front of the 192.

Agree totally that it’s probably a scam but I paid with PayPal so will have cover.
As with most impulse buys it has now occurred to me the car might be too low to slide it under and also the garage may not be wide enough! Hey ho!

Thought I would stick this up:

It’s a little battery and alternator tester currently in stock at Lidl for a whopping £2.99. If I only had this when I had my giulietta I could have saved myself £60 for a basic diagnosis Image

I needed to drill some 80mm deep holes in my reinforced concrete garage floor. To drive in some M8 concrete bolts to anchor my scissor lift and prevent it from moving.

I tried using my Bosch GSB combi drill with a new DeWalt bit which did it's best and made it 50mm deep. But it couldn't go deeper. It's a very hard floor. So I bought a Bosch GBH cordless hammer from Screwfix and (unsurprisingly) with a decent Bosch SDS bit it drilled to all those depths with ease, with no drifting. Another case of right tool for the right job. Those bolts were then driven in easily with my Bosch impact driver (I'm getting a beefier one of those soon too).

So thought I'd recommend the hammer drill here, especially as Screwfix are running a promotion at the moment that includes a free second 4Ah battery.

A recommendation for anyone elevating their car. I used this oil pan for the first time today. It's the cheapest I'd found, is light and easy to wheel around and has a nice wide pan so catches all the drips:

Got to recommend another tool. I got the Bosch GDS 18V HT 650mn impact gun. To crack the big nuts that my smaller rattle gun struggles with. It's big, so no use in tight access areas... but very satisfying.

Video demo below (from my favourite Volvo channel):

My RX8 ownership has resulted in the odd unexpected direction - and I don't just mean unanticipated loss of traction.
My current best buy tool is an end of line (65% off as bits were missing) quartz element convection oven.
oven.jpg.png
The internet is full of complex guides and expensive insulation kits to convert budget bench-top ovens to PCB reflow ovens,
as it transpires a little aluminum foil across the door\window and a stop watch is all that's required for basic SMD assembly.
- Although I must confess I have picked up an Adafruit EZ Make Oven controller so that I can ensure the temp profile is 1/repeatable and 2/recorded.

:-k Perhaps my life is a little too sad......

Used this in anger for the first time yesterday. Breaker bar and ratchet head was very useful for getting out the brake carrier bolts on pug that were in with loctite.

Think the club organised jackpads are much better quality than the genetic eBay ones rx8 one been used half a dozen times and still looks fresh. Puck has been used twice on pug (admittedly it's not shaped to fit)

That's a coincidence as I used my large jack pads on the lift, for the first time yesterday on an 8, and they worked well too.

The small jack pads and axle stand adapters have been used many times and still like new - apart from the dirt

I'm planning on getting a workbench. Mainly for working on lawnmower engines, maybe disassembling a Renesis or two, and general parts testing and fiddling. I currently only have a collapsible woodworking bench and lay bolts out on my garage sofa.

I've found one I like and the size that suits my available space best is 170cm x 75cm. It's got a steel top and can hold 1000kg, which I assume is plenty for a Renesis?
Workbench.jpg
They also do a different one with a load rating of 1500kg which is steel on top of MDF for £150 more. It looks nice but might be overkill?

Any thoughts on whether 170x75 cm is enough space to dismantle a Renesis? That's probably the biggest thing I'll work on. Or should I go deeper?

1000kg would be more than enough for a renesis - the whole car is circa 1500kg I believe. In any case the engine is definitely well below that (under 500kg).

Couldn't really comment on the space as I've never had one apart but given the compact size of the engine once you've stripped it to a bare block it doesn't seem like an unreasonable amount of space for disassembly & reassembly. Obviously more space is always better though 😁

Those weight ratings assume evenly distributed load, like a tray of sand covering the entire top to an even depth.

An engine block will be point loads concentrated at the contact points.

You need a lot of "overkill" to avoid damage and potential collapse.
