A rotary hybrid isn't a rotary powered car IMO. It's an electric car with a range extender - that may as well be a piston engine as far as performance is concerned...

Agreed Dan,as far as I'm concerned it either a new rotary or nothing at all but I think they will struggle trying to get a new rotary fuel efficient and emissions friendly so to speak so for me it's a non starter....

I think there's rumours (when isn't there...) that the same principles that they're utilising for the HCCI engine will cross over and make the rotary more efficient and cleaner. Sadly I think it's just eternal optimists trying to keep the hope alive

On the flip side those of us that do keep our rotaries will be in possession of rare ( getting rarer ) beasts :D Who knows twenty years from now we could be sitting on little gold mines 8)

I'm fairly sure filling an RX8 up with petrol for the next 20 years will more than offset any rises in value! :)

It is astonishing how quickly the numbers plummet to virtual extinction. You think the curve will flatten out but it tends not to until the numbers become very small indeed.

Take the Peugeot 306 GTi-6, which sold in decent numbers and was for a time pretty much the only hot hatch to could buy. The numbers just keep dropping:

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/?utf8=✓&q ... mit=Search

But in contrast, the EP3 Civic Type R was clearly so well built there are thousands of them still buzzing around:

https://www.howmanyleft.co.uk/vehicle/h ... c_type_-_r

That is seriously impressive.

Nahhh. You lot are too pessimistic. I'm saving up already!

I think it's pretty much a done deal.

I'm sure this has all been done to death here already but in case anyone's missed it.

New engine (proper rotary) patented! I'd put money on that going in a new car before 2020. Although, not much money......

We've been following the Vision / RX9 story quite closely on the forum (do a search). That story was from last August. Since then things have got a lot more negative. It's now looking unlikely, apparently.

Yeah, I assumed you would be. Although that last article is from November and doesn't look too dismal.

I stand by my original statement. :P

When it comes to Rx8s maintained. The real cost is going to be rust. Never mind a rebuild at 2.5k. A full shell stripped and all the rust cut out would leave the majority of UK cars, with a go-kart I suspect. ( although not a bad concept when considering the power to weight ratio)

The rate of decline for the normal 231/192 models is astonishing, 900/5400 and 600/3200 ish gone in a year. Not many of the 192s in particular seem to be being SORNed either - no real growth in the number off the road last year. I seem to see quite a few round this little bit of the South Coast but the vast majority of them look tired and nelected, it's really quite sad.

Used to regularly see 3 of them parked around Bexhill when we were over there, one lovely the other two looking less frequently washed than mine which is saying something. I'll look out for Brilliant Blacks!
