Took an hour in all to get everything done only difficult part was trying to a grip of those spark plugs

Can't believe mazda charge around £350 for this

It's not just Mazda dealers though........ they are all robbing batsards for an easy job.

Looking forward to mine being outof warranty so I can fix it myself....... 22 months to go....

Has anyone used their own sparks and other own preference parts (other then oil) for their servicing?

Like I say though, for parts it came to £130 (might be a little over that....but not much! might be £131 ) and I don't know how they can charge £300 for an hours work This was my first time changing the sparks on the 8 and they took half hour (this was at the same time as chatting with the Moomin )

With the proper tools I don't see why it could not be completed within half an hour personally

Ibought the plugs from mazdarotaryparts, not really sure on what other plugs would work but did not want to take the risk of fitting something wrong

I know that HKS/Blitz do their 'own' sparkplugs but these are simply rebranded Denso's (and cost a little more for the name!)


Be nice if we could find some alternative plugs and put up a 'cheaper alternative service parts' thread. I did check the american forums but they don't seem to have found any different plugs yet, although people were trying the rx7 plugs.

Just had the 3rd service and MOT done. £158 all in!

Supplied my own sparkplugs (£90 from www.sparkplugs.co.uk) and 5 litres of Oilman's finest (£25). I also have a K&N air filter so this wasn't required either.

So total cost £273 for service and MOT, not bad at all.

Also had the sump replaced under warranty and used the last remaining week of my warranty to get the catch on the centre console lid fixed.

Had the 2nd service done at Littlwick Green Mazda near Maidenhead.

I don't think many of you have mentioned an engine flush or brake cleaner (pads?) as part of your service. Dunno if it is essential part of the service or something to bung onto the final cost.

They also did a PCM upgrade and sorted a seriously annoying rattle I had from the steering wheel airbag cover under warranty. Rex had a wash and was driven round to me while I waited in the car showroom.

I am very happy with these guys. They are also a Honda dealer so I was given a Civic for the day.

For any one living around Maidenhead/Reading and Bracknell consider this garage rather than Slough or Basingstoke.

Engine flush is a no no! Check the service manual, very clear on that. What did they use? Is it a franchised dealer? Drop a note to Mazda customer services

Why in hells name would they use flushing oil on it's second service? it's fine for normal piston engine cars but not a rotory, they'll be half the stuff left inside the engine and coolers, flushing oil is not designed to stay inside your motor. I would as G man surgests contact MAZDA over this. It makes you wonder if they put the right oil in to.....

OMG - I have just phoned the dealer - they close early on a saturday but a guy did say that the engine flush item may have "inadvertently" found its way on to the invoice. I rather that than some nasty stuff circulating and chewing the engine up.

They will get back to me on monday, either way I feel a letter coming on just to let them know that I know, that this dealer may have contributed to premature engine wear - and thus I can claim from them.

Oh yes, they are a Mazda dealer also!!

I have been quoted over the phone for just over £400 for the 37.5k service, seems a little high?

That was TW Whites (as they had good reviews from other members), I just phoned RoTechnics for a quote and they said £328 which is over £100 less!

They also said the price had just changed, but didn't say what it changed from.

Just heard back from TW White & son about a bloom of corrosion/ fault in paint, they were helpful when i took the car back ( after 4 days of ownership), but i hadn't heard from them for about 10 days so called them.

Sorry was the first responce but i've now found out they will not be repainting the door ........... but supplying a brand new one!!!!!!, which is why they didn't call they were waiting for it to come in before ringing me.

This is great news and i will also be getting a lone car for the 3 days it will take to paint and fit.

p.s is it normal to get 150 miles to a tank ( it was the first full tank and i have been "enjoying" the car with some "spirited" driving.

Should be getting 200+ even if you drive it hard, maybe that low if you just do very short journeys and nothing over say 5 miles at a time. Only time I ever went south of 180 on a tank was on a track day.

It's quite steep for an oil & filter change and brake fluid replacement!

Details as to what is done at each service interval can be found in the back of the owners manual.

I can not recommend the dealership highly enough, not only was the service good (made me feel like a top customer) but the cost was fair-almost half the potters bar price but the quality of mechanics make me feel like I am not handing my car over to a bunch of monkeys.

Haven't read the whole thread (sorry) but together with this post, I think I'll take my car down there for its service which is due any day now.

I bought my car from Hughes Mazda in slough. Had a bad experience and don't want to go back. Problems stretched from them damaging the car, to wheel nuts falling off and them losing my documents etc... Fingers crossed for Naymills!

That does seem excessive. I had my 4th service done only yesterday and it was £140 + parts + VAT.
Perhaps they quoted you the 3rd service by mistake?

Well including the fitting of brake pads that I provided (1 hr labour) and renewing Mazda Assist for £10 it came to £274.

Ah, that's not such a bad price then. I was fortunate not to need any work done beyond the standard oil/fluid change, but my grand total (including £50 for MOT) still came to £283.

4th service & MoT due in a couple of weeks. Working in Reading nowadays.
I might give Littlewick Green Mazda a try, but from a recent post..was it established that they were or were not using engine flush? That worries me a bit.
Got a quote from Rotechniks (independent Rotary specialist) of £219 including the MOT, VAT and courtesy car. My car is out of warranty now so not too bothered about using dealers.

Although I think that it is meant to be £15 now!

I have had my car in at the dealers overnight... they have spent 3.5 hours looking at it and cant tell me whats wrong. 3.5 hrs at £70approx. They cant tell me why its low on power, but think it may be something to do with airflow......

The cars not long out of warranty (a month i think) as i dont want them spedning more and more hours and my bill keeps going up.... any advice?

I took my car to Naymills Mazda (greenford/southall - London) and am happy I did.

Much nicer dealer experience than before and the car looks like it has come back faster, and sounds even better (like it did when new!)

It was quite pricey, £485, although they did replace the pollen filter and brake fluid which added an extra £60 on. But I'm just glad my car is ok. This was the third service before anyone asks...

To sum up:
Good points: fast, good job, friendly, kept me informed well, no problems (touch wood).
Bad points: valet service was crap (car was cleaned slightly but it was clear someone only used one of those guns and didnt spend time cleaning the actual dirt off the car with a sponge. the carpets were also vacuumed lightly but still dirty), had to wait a bit of time (40 mins or so) after arriving before actually picking up the car, and the glovebox was unlocked when I picked up the car even though i had locked it when dropping it off. however nothing was stolen, so maybe it's just a faulty lock??

Overall: Highly recommended!

not sure if there's anyone who will still remember me from the preorder days - but as a bit of background i was the fist member to recieve their car way back in september 03.

while it's been great fun I'm now becoming slowly sickened by servicing.

For the second year running I'd had to replace the drop links - this on a car that does less than 5000 miles a year. (last years service took them a month cause they couldn't get the parts - long time to be without a car, even with my mileage)

Brake squeak - given up trying to get this fixed

Chair Sqeaks - given up trying to get this fixed.

So this time what does it need:

now as I was going on holiday the week after I delayed the brakes till this week. So part 1 of the service costs me about 400 quid.

Only thing is when i picked it up it wouldn't turn over properly. Grinds away and eventually starts - being that it was last thing at night i took it home nonetheless (stupid I know, but it was only sales staff left at that time of night).

Now three weeks later they tell me that the starter motor needs replaced - 460 quid please (plus the brakes of course), damned odd coincidence that the starter motor fails in their care while it's suppsed to get a recall for starting problems.

so this month (also including for it's 1st set of tyres) I'm close to 2 grand out of pocket - nice at this time of year.

4 years at this dealer -
sent me off without road tax disk.
screwed up the finance.
can't fix persistant problems.
never cleaned it let alone valeted it (usually bogging and covered in in bird sh!t from their yard)

maybe i'm just fed up today - but i think i'll sell it in the new year - buy a bike or something.
