Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Get your plugs from somewhere like MRP and supply your own oil for them to use, see how much the price drops ...

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Is there a general "one stop shop" for rx8 service parts, either here or elsewhere that you guys know of?
I'm a nervous wreck when it comes to buying parts for cars (even just the spark plugs!) so I'm always weary of buying the parts and paying garages for labor only
id literally be engulfed in embarrassment if i turned up at the garage with the wrong filter or something haha

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
First place I look is MRP, but any of the traders on the forum (eg Rotary Revs, Essex Rotary and so on - just see the traders section for the others) are good for most the things you'll need of the quality you'll need. Many of them offer a discount for club members too (MRP offer 5% for example), so if you're getting all the service items you'll save more than the cost of joining straight away.

I get different things from different places and it sometimes changes when new deals come around.
If you want to do the work yourself, let me know what you need and I might be able to give you a good deal?

Why does this thread default to opening on Page 33 each time I click on unread posts? Very strange.

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Not to do with the RX but my Lexus dealer just diagnosed seized rear calipers on the GS450H and sent me a video if the mechanic getting hold of each caliper, with the wheels still on, proving it was seized.
Quoted ne £650 to supply and fit!!!! I declined their offer and hopefully will simply, perhaps not simply though, remove the caliper and clean or replace the slider pins. Apparently the lower pin is known to be pro be to seizing on this design of caliper yet lubrucating at service is not a scheduled task.
EDIT: So the car was valeted yesterday at the dealers and then I did a 40 mile round trip out into the Cotswolds this morning and its filthy due to the farm mud and quarry slurry on the roads. hey ho that's life and as a boss told me many years ago in days of a company car, "if its a work car and its clean all the time then its not working enough" he was an education more than inspiration I can tell you!

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Annual service by MGRS High Wycombe, Bucks. ( www.mgrs.co.uk ) Service included spark plugs, oil & filter, air filter, pollen filter, brake fluid change and check of gearbox and diff oil levels (wanted to double check dealer did it right last year). Also applied underseal on certain areas where needed, grease suspension components where needed and locate and fix interior rattle. Car collected and dropped off locally from my home. Service price £216 inc. VAT. All parts were supplied by myself, bought on a Euro Car Parts offer for £140, so total £356. Positive review of MGRS added to the members section.

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Does anyone have the maintenance schedule? I'm looking for what needs to be done in the 11th year / 137500 miles.
Mazda websites show:
--137500 mile/11 year service
and
--Extended Servicing Essential
But nothing is itemised :-(
Cheers,
Jon

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Here's the official Service Schedule, which only covers the first 9 years in detail
http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/vi ... 25&t=35688
Beyond that you need to look at each individual line item on your service history and determine the last time each was checked/replaced.
Some things are more influenced by age and others by mileage.
Are you still on the original (un-rebuilt) engine at 137500 miles?
If not, then the engine related elements should be serviced based on the years/miles since the rebuild.

My engine has only done 62,000 miles but was registered in 2006 - hence 11th year service but Mazda's website shows I should have done 137,500 by then. It's original but I've noticed it does take a second or two longer to hot start :-(
Plugs and coils changed about a year ago...the BluePrint ADL ones were actually fine - it was the spark plugs that really needed changing.
I only do about 4000-5000 miles a year...I'll dig up the last service docs somewhere...I'm guessing air filter, pollen filter, oil, oil filter, and top ups of other fluids.
Cheers again,
Jon

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Just been quoted £303 for a 10th year service from local Mazda dealer, for oil/filter, transmission oil, pollen filter, air filter, coolant and brake fluid. Does this seem excessive? I could probably get price down supplying some of my own stuff but just wondered if this sounds typical? If it's excessively overpriced I'd rather pay to fill the tank and take it to Rotary Revs!
Cheers!

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Looks reasonable to me provided they include the parts listed. Not much more than similar service listed on RR website:Neith wrote: ↑Fri Feb 23, 2018 11:00 pmJust been quoted £303 for a 10th year service from local Mazda dealer, for oil/filter, transmission oil, pollen filter, air filter, coolant and brake fluid. However you haven't listed the dealer as including spark plugs which should be changed every time. That's pretty telling (cost about £70+ online for set of 4). You may also want to confirm with them what viscosity oil they'll be using and ensure you're happy with it.

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Yeah it doesn't include spark plugs in the quote. Worst part is I have pretty much everything already for the service but whoever serviced it before I bought it tightened the oil filter way too much; it wouldn't even budge with filter wrenches. Not really confident enough to go the screwdriver route so this is probably the only choice!

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
I have just returned from Lynx Mazda in Yeovil, after having 3 recalls completed. The Fuel lines and tank straps and the airbag ... thing.
After hearing a few horror stories I was a little apprehensive but was actually pleasantly surprised. The guys and gals had had a few RX8s in, so weren't completely ignorant to the cars foibles. They were very pleasant and happy to answer my dumb questions. The work was completed very quickly with a health check thrown in.
The car now actually starts a little quicker and appears to be a bit perkier, which is definitely an unexpected side effect. I guess the fuel lines were not operating optimally.
EDIT - After a couple of days I have noticed a very strong smell of petrol. So for the time being I am redacting my recommendation!
My first call to them detailing my concern was greeted by a "that's normal, it should go after a couple of days". I will update further as this develops.
EDIT II a further phonecall resulted in them rushing through the repair for me with little fuss. Pleased with how they dealt with it. I'd happily recommend Lynx Mazda.

Booked in at Mazda Oldham for recall work next week, they want the car for 2 days, I'm assuming there's more to do than just change an airbag then?

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Post your VIN and I can check the Mazda database to see exactly what needs doing.
If it includes the fuel tank then you need to arrive with less than a quarter full tank, otherwise they won't be able to do the work.

Re: Dealer Service costs and General Information.
Just got the car back from Oldham, they've replaced both airbags and the fuel pump according to the paperwork.
Seems to be incredibly responsive to throttle input, maybe the old pump was knackered?.
