Re: Weight Saving
I believe I may win at the holy grail of weight saving. I'll get some pics this weekend. Yours is a better colour though!

Re: Weight Saving
thing is there's not much low hanging fruit with this car, Mazda did a good job what with ally / plastic panels etc
and for most of us I'd say we still want the car to be a usable road car
so I'd like to know how much can you save whilst still keeping it useable and have 4 seats and not be afraid of a motorway journey
smaller battery - 5kg?
removal of airpump - 3 kg?
toyo catback over OEM - 5kg?
toyo manifold over OEM - 2kg?
sport cat pipe over OEM cat - 3kg?
scraping off of sound deadening under carpet - 5kg? a lot of effort this one
removal of passenger airbag? - 8 kg?
so minus 31kg? on a 1300 kg car? ( not including driver and fuel etc)
so 2% lighter......
or am I missing something?

Re: Weight Saving
The "leather" front seats are quite a lot heavier than the fabric, with all those motors...

Under sill rubber strips & and plastic floor panels 2.2
2 Rear speakers 1.85
2 Rear tweeters 0.25
Rear Amp 1.0
Boot rear plastic panel 1.0
2 Side air bag curtains 2.0
2 Boot side trim 2.12
Boot carpet 0.9
Engine cover 1.0
Rear wheel arch liners & mud 1.8
2 Rear seat bases 4.5
2 Rear seat backs 5.9
Rear cubby bin and cradle 1.1
Rear seat belts 1.9
Bolts from parts removed 0.5
2 Front door speakers and tweeters 2.7

I've had a bit of an add up and the 50/50 weight distribution is still not far out
