Weight Saving
Morning gents and gentess',
This mornings great idea is as follows; with so little collated information on here and from the colonies on the matter I am starting a thread strictly for information on weights. I will update this thread periodically with peoples results.
So please, like with previous threads I have started of this nature do not clutter it with conversation and arguments about the numbers. If you wish to do so, start a fresh thread and link it back to here, or pm me and I will link into this post.
With the large influx of people breaking cars on here, and stripping them. We, in the UK have a notable opportunity to cash in on the crap residual value of our cars, and obtain as much information as possible from people performing this automotive autopsies as I will refer to them.
So preferable using the metric system, name of the part, and the weight. If you have a replacement part name it and it's weight.
These opening figures are from the yanks to get us going. I have converted them to KG.
Stock Small Battery - 9.57kg
Stock Replacement Battery - 16.78kg
Lug Nuts - 0.136kg
Engine Cover - 1.04kg
Battery Cover - 0.32kg
Emergency Tire Kit - 2.18kg
Car Jack with Case - 2.72kg
Stock wheels - 10kg a piece!
Rays MS-01 - 7.9kg each Rota's etc similar reduction.
Front Seat (power/leather) - 25kg
Front Seat (cloth/base) - 17kg (including sliders and mounting equipment)
Bride Vios III Carbon Kevlar with frames C.7kg each
Stock Catback Exhaust - 17.5kg
Stock Cat & Midpipe - 10.5kg
Stock Exhaust Manifold (with O2 Sensor) - 8kg
Stock Intake System - 5.9kg
Full A/C System - 8.2kg
Stock Aluminum Hood - 6.8kg
Stock Front Brake Rotors - 8.4kg each
Front Calipers and Pads - 5.9kg each
Stock Rear Brake Rotors - 5.7kg each
Rear Calipers and Pads - 4.1kg each
OE Front Shock Assembly w/ spring - 5.2kg each
OE Rear Shock Assembly w/spring - 5.7kg each
Front anti-roll bar 2.85kg
Racing beat front anti-roll bar 4.3kg
Fog lights 0.5kg
headlight washer with hose 0.8kg
4 brake dust covers 1.1kg
Strut Front Bar 1.8kg
Ok feel free to add your own. I will tidy it up and arrange things better.
Would be nice to know the weight of Tein Monoflex's and the air pump amongst others. I will weigh some tyres.
O and a biggy! If anyone could weigh all the useless insulation in the engine bay, under the carpets and anywhere else when stripping a car. Apparently there is ALOT to be saved there! Anyway, enjoy stripping your cars people. And hopefully we will have a solid list many will be able to refer back to, and get some notable gains from. Cheaper, and less of a 'snake oil' than some performance improvement methods I hear banded about.

Re: Weight Saving
Thanks for taking the time to put all those numbers down! Weight saving is something that interests me a lot on the 8.
I was surprised to see that the Racing Beat ARB is heavier than stock! I was actually thinking about buying these but might have to reconsider

Re: Weight Saving
They are heavier because they are stiffer.
I believe the standard ones are hollow and the racing beats are solid. They would cost even more if they were stiffer and lighter.

Re: Weight Saving
Get the ARB, the benefit to handling will far outweigh (pun intended!) the increased weight. Heck if you want to compensate for it take the jack out the boot!

Re: Weight Saving
I've almost finished stripping my interior (2006 231ps). Have been weighing it all as I go, but not item by item. Here are the headlines (all figures in kg):
Drivers seat 24.3
Passenger seat 18.1
Rear sears 11.4
Carpet + mats 14.2
Front door trims 5.9
Speakers + amps 7.5
Rooflining, roof trim and side airbags 8.7
Currently part-way through the horrible job of removing the adhesive soundproofing on the floorpan. Will update this when I've got it all out.

It pumps air into the exhaust when the engine is cold to get the catalytic converter up to temperature quickly and reduce the emissions.

Superb thread, thank you! Very useful as I am figuring out what to remove. All depends on what the MSA Blue Book says I can. It's free performance that I'll grasp with both hands.
