One of the most effective weight saving techniques is....go to the gym.

Liam,
I'm currently working my way through this job at the moment. I'm amazed how much weight there is in this stuff alone!
The quickest way I have found to remove it is, get some freeze spray or dry ice. Put it on the insulation for a few seconds then immediately hit it with a hammer. Shatters it and makes it come away in big chunks.
I've done my boot now, and looking to do the front but before I start the front, did it make the car sound any 'tinnier' or excessively noisier? I've noticed the boot now sounds a bit cheaper almost with the metal being thin. But nothing I really notice with the carpet back down. I just don't want to make it excessively loud and uncomfortable inside as I'm aiming to keep this a streetable car.
I'm expecting with the carpets back in place it shouldn't be too bad?[/quoTE
Hi mate , what brand of freezespray did you use to help in the removal of the sound deadening ?
thanks

If anyone fancies filming a short clip of the freezing and cracking and getting a few pics it would make a nice little DIY guide.

Re: Weight Saving
I gave up with the freeze spray as not very effective.
I bought 20kg of dry ice on line.
[urlw]http://www.dryicesupplyuk.com/?gclid=CL ... GwodaUsMJA[/urlw]
Make sure you wear thick gloves!
Dump it all in one footwell leave for two minutes you will hear it cracking up, then move it all to next footwell.
You will find the insulation just pries up with a stiff paint scraper.
Then afterwards you can mess around dropping pieces into water and turning your kitchen into a horror film movie set!

Re: Weight Saving
Just thought I'd add that I have one of those reciprocating multi-tool thingies, and if you pair that with the appropriate scraper tool (a bit like this) - it's properly effective for stuff like this.V8 Power wrote: with a stiff paint scraper.

You hear every little piece of grit bouncing off the underside of your car and when driving in the rain sounds like you are driving the through a waterfall!

Mine isn't a daily but the raw noise really adds to the experience.

Haha mines already loud with the decat exhaust and the modified toyo intake and porting, not to mention the nagging noise that seems to emanate from the passenger seat...

Drop some in a bowl of water and you have your own smoke machine, should have seen the look on my neighbours face when I stood there with my mug of tea smoking away! (Obviously didn't drink it!)
On a serious note:- Do not let it come into contact with your skin! Instant frost bite.

Re: Weight Saving
Dry ice also squeaks nicely if you crush a small piece. Watch out for the potential hazards from when it warms up too: asphyxiation if it can blanket in an enclosed space, and explosion if put into a sealed container while still cold and allowed to warm.
When you're done, you can use some to make really smooth icecream too, though liquid nitrogen is better.

Was 20 kg enough to do both foot wells and boot ?
Cheers
