Just bought a BB PZ. Would like to number it but can't access the official list. Could one of the admins grant me access to view or should I just choose my preferred number and someone can tell me if it's already taken?

Hi and :welcome: Jmilmer. :) I don't think the PZs were numbered, so just pick a number you fancy (that someone else hasn't already picked - you can see the list on page 1 of this thread).

Bear in mind there is no PZ special edition numbers only what owners have decided to use but so far they are:

001,002 007, 008, 013, 017, 021, 026, 066, 069, 077, 317, 666, 800

I'm surprised that so few have been allocated. Am I right in thinking that there were 420 of the BB and 380 of the GG manufactured? Also, is there any way to know from the VIN number where in the production run the vehicle was made? As much as I like the idea of having an extremely low number (003 or 004 for example) or a really late model (799 for example) it would be interesting to try to work out if mine was early or late in the production of the PZ. The PZ was launched in May 2006 and my car was first registered in September 2006. If that's almost impossible to do/pointless exercise as it's just a bit of fun anyway, then the numbers I like the sound of are:

000 (like the original Subaru Impreza 22B Prodrive prototypes owned by Nicky Grist and Colin McRae)
003 (a good early number)
044 (I like this number, also is the number I'm racing with this season)
101 (just a nice number)
199 (again, I just like this number)
231 (for the obvious RX8 relationship)
799 (a good late number)

What are people's thoughts?

The numbers of grey/black sound about right as far as I recall. As for using the VIN numbers to get an idea of where each car came in the production run, I don't think that is possible. Mazda delivered 800 cars to ProDrive to make their alterations, but they didn't just take 'the next' 800 from the production line.

As for the individual numbers chosen so far, I think only the people who have bothered to have numbered kick plates made up have picked their number.

With the PZ as there was no official Mazda special edition numbers issued it would be impossible to accurately assign a number for each car as there is nothing to take a reference from ie it is not known if a consecutive set of VIN`s were used or even what was the lowest VIN to start with.

Someone was trying to calculate an unknown build number for their 40th Anniversary by contacting other owners with known numbers and comparing registration dates but as I pointed out even with that there was no guarantee that the registration dates could be used as an accurate guide due to the length of time the 40th Anniversary car was on sale for.

Point to clarify:

Last 6 didits of the VIN is sequentially allocated as the cars come off the production line.

However cars were produced as ordered or when they had space between ordered cars, therefore all models are mixed but if you collected together all PZ VIN's, then put them in order you could allocate numbers to that order.

This is how Mazda allocated the numbers to the 40th Aniversary cars. But they did not get it perfect and allocated a few numbers out of sequence.

By the way any details people have on 40th's would be great fully received.

Can't be bothered with this numbering malarky.

It didn't come with a number so not going to give it a number, mind you it didn't come with Rear LED lights but i fitted those.

So pretty much horses for courses then, glad i made the effort to post this pointless missive.
