What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Car has not been started since going SORN in December so sounded a bit sluggish initially but fired quickly and so left it to warm up. Whilst that was happening I tightened the top arm bolts and put the front wheels back on.
Once warmed I nervously went down the road for a drive to settle the suspension down.
Fitted the TEIN EDFC kit today, well almost but not quite as I have the rears to wire in. My remaining piggy back fuses were all the large type and ran out of daylight anyway. The leads from the motors to the controllers are seriously long but disappear nicely below the slam panel.
Cup of coffee and another read of the manual settings section. It has to be the most complex but simple thing to set up. It will click eventually!

Will be interesting how you find them as I use the car set on hard all the time as I find it to bouncy if you know what I mean!

Am off to RRP for another engine tune today. Fingers crossed it helps the mpg issue I've had since making some mods. But one front brake was grinding/binding on Thursday, so I decided yesterday to hastily replace the pads and service the pins. The calipers themselves are only a year old. It was miserable, and wet and dark out there yesterday evening , but I didn't fancy taking Carl out with any doubt in my mind re the brakes.

The pictures aren't great but this was the front 1144s. There is a fair bit of meat on most of them left. But on both wheels one edge has crumbled away more than I'm comfortable with. Is that normal? Not seen that on previous pads, but this is my first set of 1144s. One end of one pad is a bit thinner than I'd prefer to make the effort of putting them on again worthwhile. So I've kept them in the garage, but for now have replaced with OEM Brembos until my track season starts again. Then I'll put some fresh 1144s on.

(The bad light makes it look in the photos like there's more meat left on the pads than there really is, but that's mostly down to the way they've sloped on the leading/crumbled edge)

I am hard on brakes, but I am a bit sad that I only got 6 months and 3 trackdays out of them. I ran out of time last night so will replace the rears with Brembos on Monday and save those to 'hopefully' refit when I put new 1144s on the front. I don't have any replacement 1144s for the rears. So I'm hoping they've lasted better (which I had counted on when I ordered fewer for the rear).

I'm impressed you lasted that long. I miss driving it when I'm away for even a week driving much more powerful cars!

I really need to crack on with it, but I’m a very busy person as it is.

Part of me wants to bolt all my goodies on and get going while the other part of me wants to sit it out and strip it apart and get on building a crazy block and gear box.

Leaving it outside in the rain storm for two days whilst sorting out my workshop floor has given it a pretty good clean! Logging on remote cctv gives me a good view on one of my cams!

Gave the brakes a good inspection and clean, also serviced the pins as the brakes were a little slow to release after a forceful dig of the brakes. Also started to look at work needed to replace the coils and was presented with an unexpected view:

Those are D585 coils, right? Am I right in understanding that the ECU needed to be remapped for these to work properly?

In theory a change to the "dwell" should produce more power out of these coils.
However, running them on standard dwell has two major advantages;
- it reduces the duty cycle, so helps them last longer
- it allows you to switch back to Mazda or RRP MkII coils, in the future without having to get the change reversed.

I had my dwell mapped to suit my BHR D585 coils 7 years ago and couldn't tell any difference driving, after two previous years on standard map.
In hindsight I would have left it alone.

Hello everyone just wanted to ask about pz suspension is there a better alignment from standard version ?? And does anyone have the specs please as i got to do the bushes going polly then have it all reset

The PZ suspension should be set as per the Sports suspension in the Workshop Manual, taking care to check the ride-height and check the tables, for those parameters where it matters.

Expect the ride to be harsher and the direction control to be more edgy with polybushes

That’s interesting
I took my subframe off last night to check the bushes for wear as my diff mounts were shot to bits . What is acceptable wear and how would you check it ?
Like putting a socket extension through and moving back and forth . What would be acceptable .
If they are shot should I go Mazda or polybush ?

I have polly bushes on my wrx and nissan 300zx tt i think they are a god send cos it much better the feel in steering and the control i think is so much better

I’ve looked at the rear subframe drawing and the bushes are not numbered only the outer rubber pieces . Could you have a look on your Mazda part finder to see if they are a available please ?

I’d say be selective with what you polybush and it’s ok but for everyday driving you want some give in places

It’s a track car so all other bushes have been changed .
I can only find strong flex subframe bushes . I put them on my PZ and want fussed on the fitment , no locating ring on the washer , there was lots of movement which I had to centralise on the fittings . Just a big washer under it to tighten .

I've had good results on my black paint with ultra deep shine from autoglym. Has fillers to mask the scratches. It's an all in one so you don't need a wax on top. In fact I bought autoglym high definition wax because it looked so exciting but after application on top it just highlighted the scratches again. So just one coat of UDS is sufficient.

It's actually been a long time I've been able to give the car a good clean myself so there might be something better these days.

I'm waiting to borrow a buffer from a friend at work to try and get rid of some of the scratches. It looks like someone used a scouring pad in parts.

Half tempted to look at wraps just to get it sorted short term while saving for a proper re spray. But they are both years away unless anyone has a spray booth I can use.
