Castrol Power 1 Racing 2t is what I use as my premix :thumleft:

My battery was fitted by someone who did not remove the transit plugs. The result is gross and I will take a picture next time I'm nearby of the vomitous excretia it's puked out.

Aston showed me an 8 he had in the workshop at Essex Rotary. The battery had split, leaving the tray and front sub-member with massive holes from the acid burn.

I assumed that it had been run/charged unvented but that wasn't the problem.
It had been allowed to go flat over the winter and then frozen solid, bursting the case.
A fully charged battery can go down to seriously cold temperatures without freezing but a flat battery can freeze at as little as -5C.

That said, any stuff that escapes from a fully charged battery is a lot more acidic than from a flat battery.

My VFR750 had a AGM (Absorbed Glass Mat) battery fitted from new, and these really are sealed-for-life and unvented.
That was great until the voltage regular went AWOL (as they had a habit of doing) and the battery case swelled so much that I couldn't get it out of the holder. Luckily it didn't leak.

Yarp – been there…! (Before I could weld too)

So onto the crossmember. I couldn't weld at the time (nor did I own a welder), and drilling out spot welds etc. was all new to me. I got some practice on the good condition crossmember from BigPete who cut one out of a breaker car.
Inside my engine bay, I drained the cooling system, got the coolant pipes and expansion tank out of the way and carefully set about drilling out the crossmember.

With that out, I treated the bottom half of the crossmember to some Bilth Hamber Hydrate 80 rust converter, then prepped the metal for welding. I roped a friend from work in to weld the replacement crossmember in providing I did all the prep - I then zinc primed it all, top coat and then filled the insides with BH Dynax S-50 anti corrosion cavity wax. Hopefully that's that bit sorted then. Image

Removed the front bumper which I ripped off last weekend due to having an extra block on the wedges to raise the front wheels for jacking. Repaired the broken sections around the side marker lights but it really requires the more serious repair doing and the arch liners and undertray re aligning.
Anyway, it’s on and solid so it’s ok for now.
Changed the rear pads as they were cooked in August at Croft. Down to about 3mm burnt and crazed so Mallory next month would have seen them off for sure.
Bled the brakes again and this time I have a good hard pedal.
That’s the car all ready for the Allsorts drive out to Aberystwyth on Sunday which will be 4 x RX8s and a Bentley GT W12 Turbo mapped to over 600bhp!

I'd like to buy a 13mm spanner like this, but a bit more substantial;-
TPMS spanner.jpg
If you google cranked, angled, or offset you get anything but this.
Any suggestions what to ask for?

Dave, probably, but it would be way OTT (at least at the prices I've seen). It's for the nut that locks the pressure sensors onto the tyre valve.

The first crowfoots I saw were around £30, but having found them at about £6, I'll go for that. Thanks Dave.

Swapped the cabin filters out... Was definitely wayyy over due! My parrot system keeps turning itself on and off again which is irritating... Really need to take it out and put my other stereo and a better bluetooth/SD card system in. (Not a fan of the parrot).

Also took the measurements of where I'm going to build the shed for wintering the car today. :)

That "sootiness" on the filter might be active carbon, used in some filters to absorb smells, or just dirt...

Probably active carbon Id imagine the new filters were pretty similar in colour. But the amount of debris makes me thinks they havent been done in a while! See if it helps with the misting issue.

The plastic was also pretty discoloured too! :P The previous owner didn't seem the sort to actually bother with cabin filters etc. And the guy that had it before him I have no clue.

Currently trying to figure out what to do about making this solar trickle charger..

Up at RRP to have my MK2 coils/leads/plugs installed (from group buy) and a spot of tuning.
Scott and Carl were on good form as usual.

That’s a nasty bald spot he is getting
Great service from the guys as always

Wasn’t all good today as whilst mapping discovered an exhaust manifold leak and possibly an intake leak where a plug/bung had been inserted to block off the side port which no longer used due to the peripheral porting.
Will have to go back to have full investigation.

That was some fast hair displacement surgery Carl! (probably just V8s camera angle more than anything though aha)

Just tested the drain with and without the alarm on my battery... 0.04A with the alarm active and 0.03/0.04A without it. My multimeter isnt sensitive enough to come to a solid figure without the alarm on. So now that I know this... I uh... need a physics re-education because its been a while since I did electricity...
