Am I right in thinking that you cut right through any remaining cable and protective tube so you had loose ends on which to thread the tube from the Range?Honkytonk wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2019 7:00 pm
You're right about the cable tube, but I found a section of flexible heat-shrinkable ribbbed plastic hose in my local The Range's aquarium section to cover it with, then heated and hot glued the ends to form a seal. It's not quite OEM but it's close enough...

Yup, used them a few times.
The wire ends need to be bright clean and I dip in flux paste first, just to be sure.

No, I split the tube addition down the middle (like a subway sandwich) and then when it heat shrunk it closed the gap, which I made sure of with a little extra hot glue (for the bodgiest of jobs)
I'll try and find what I used next time I'm in there. If you Google corrugated heat shrink you should see the type of stuff I'm talking about.

Replacement engine in and running!
Fluids changed so I'm starting from fresh. Just a coolant light on the dash now
Also found a new spot for my number plate. Just the undertray and wheel dressings to go.

Not sure if I’m telling you what you already know John but the coolant light is a very common thing , most just unplug the sensor and check the level periodically.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
finally manage to correct pcv system to full active
I used mx5 pcv valve + 0.5mm long restrictor
air goes to bottom of factory catch (filler tube is factory oil catch can) via oil deep stick whole and coming out filler neck to
2ndry after market catch, then to pcv valve+restrictor then to Y pipe, finally two 3mm pipe to each main rotor port.
pros
all air are meter air from map sensor so no false fuel trim
air circulate actively to clean any moist and/or oil vapour
drain of system after all ssv and other valves so no carbon/ dirty/ sticky valve
addition lube for rotors
low pressure in sump reduce oil leaks, improve oil return to sump !?
cheap retro fit
cons
negative effect on octane
taking off deep stick

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
the rear pads on the car were pagids anyway and the fronts were 1144's but i've gone back to a road pad for when i'm not on track as i'm not liking the "pause" you get on the 1144's when they are cold.
i'll keep you posted once they are bedded in, but i't will be a few weeks as i'm using the parents cars as my dailies whist they are away.
