Checked pads drivers side the other day and thought they'd be ok for Spain and Portugal tomorrow! Then I hears a noise this morning and rear passenger side had let go of what was left lol , hour later the new yellowstuff I've had for I don't know how long are now fitted ready ! So always check both sides

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Given the car a pretty much all round service. Gearbox oil, diff oil, engine oil, spark plugs, air filter. AND compression tested it.
With the results of:
Rear Rotor:
5.4 5.8 6.10
Front Rotor:
5.4 5.1 5.3
normalised to 250RPM. Happy no apex seals are gone. Gear change is now smoother and starts a LOT faster again. Didnt change the coolant or check the coils. My ramp time came to 4 hours and a half in total.. A little bit ouchy but oh well. Got to go and order 2 new tyres too because two of them are bald!

Did nothing on the car today due to the rain, but I did manage to pack and address all the Group Buy Mintex pads.

While it will probably not be a problem for the rest of the year, those aren't particularly strong numbers I'm afraid to say. If it's a keeper, I'd stash some spare change away for a replacement (good) engine if one pops up in the mean time or a rebuild further down the line.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Yeah Im aware. I had a rebuild planned down the line anyway. I know some people who have ran worse numbers for a few years before having real issues. Ill probably not be driving the car during winter. Which will be save up for a rebuild/a special edition and figure out something to do with the current one.13Black wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:52 pmYorindesarin wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 7:01 pmcompression tested it.

Current plans just to get new coils/leads and a COFS possibly for if I go the rebuild route then everything will be ready to go straight into a healthier enviroment type deal. (And if I change my mind I can always use those things on a different car.) The actual body of this car is really pretty clean considering where its been the last 5 or so years and the body work is in really good condition too. So rebuilding it wouldnt be such a bad thing.
Also just purchased 2 Falken Azensis K510s to go on the front and replace the bald current tyres. May need a 4 wheel alignment some time too.

Ah excellent
If she's off the road for a little while then I'd seriously consider getting it on axle stands and pulling every darn bung etc out of the bottom of the car and in the arches for a thorough Dynax cavity waxing. Good shells are harder to find (/ bad ones harder to fix) than engines these days.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I shall give that a look into! My mechanic had a look under the car whilst I had it up in the air. Theres a few repairs that need to be seen to from where its scraped/hit here and there. (I really need to get the suspension back up a bit so my tracks less of a hazard). But over all... Theres no rot as of yet. So I would like to keep it that way!13Black wrote: ↑Fri Jun 07, 2019 8:07 pmAh excellent

Also today my friend told me that I dont have any brake lights... So thats tomorrows job along with reaffixing my numberplate! My drivers side window also decided to stick today again! So silicone grease will have to be broken out me thinks. Oh and noticed my passenger side headlight has moisture in it!

i fitted a set of rrp coils, leads and plugs, and i am very pleased with the results. there is definetly a lot more low end grunt, and overall a much quicker throttle response. i am checking the mpg atm ,and i am pretty sure that will improve a bit too. i am used to getting 300 miles per tank,so this could be interesting.

Checked the electrical connectors on the PS wiring again today, including the big white earth lead which was filthy so I marmalise the outer connector to get at the actual terminals, cleaned them all up and heat shrunk insulation over the connection. Put the whole lot back together and.....still no PS!

FFS! Sums my feelings up exactly. Mihail is taking a PSC unit to Brands tomorrow to swap in so maybe that will see a change.

I've been eyeing those up for a while and while I have no doubts about them, I'll be interested in what a difference they make.goodeggbob wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 7:34 pmi fitted a set of rrp coils, leads and plugs, and i am very pleased with the results. there is definetly a lot more low end grunt, and overall a much quicker throttle response. i am checking the mpg atm ,and i am pretty sure that will improve a bit too. i am used to getting 300 miles per tank,so this could be interesting.
Cleared the boot out of the various bits I'd been carrying about in there for lack of a better place to put them. My delivery from Opie arrived and I chuckled a bottle in the boot so I have some to hand. Worked out about £3/l with their £10 off offer atm, and 20l should keep me going for, oh, a month or so.

I'd be very surprised if there was any performance or response advantage fitting the RRP ignition kit, compared to a fully working oem system.Honkytonk wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2019 8:26 amI've been eyeing those up for a while and while I have no doubts about them, I'll be interested in what a difference they make.goodeggbob wrote: ↑Sat Jun 08, 2019 7:34 pmi fitted a set of rrp coils, leads and plugs, and i am very pleased with the results. there is definetly a lot more low end grunt, and overall a much quicker throttle response. i am checking the mpg atm ,and i am pretty sure that will improve a bit too. i am used to getting 300 miles per tank,so this could be interesting.
However, I also suspect that many cars are running with a much less than fully working ignition system and therefore would benefit greatly.

I must admit that start up and if you stall it or turn off for short jurny they work wellbut i do agree 90% of rx8 coils are past it lol as most ppl dont know to change them after 30,000 or less

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
i would agree with that Dave, i can only suggest they have made a very noticeable difference when i put my foot down at about 3000 revs up hill in third gear. my son and i have a fixed roadsign we use to gauge accelaration, and i am certainly reaching that at a higher speed than i was before. as for what i took off the car, they were 585 coils, mag leads and plugs of unknown age,i also found that 1 of the trailing plugs was not fully tight.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
By the way, there is nothing whatsoever wrong with the 585 coils and leads, they have been put on my son's car which had a mixture of coils of unknown origin, so a win win for both of us.

i think this is a great example of the reason for my dislke of d585’s and why im a big fan of rrp’s coils.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
hey James, dont take my comments as a negative opinion of 585 coils, my son simply needed coils and this way we both win. i personally have no problem with 585 coils, and if anything, they are a little more flexible,in that they can be used on a car with an unknown mapping history.
