Must be a design feature to counter the quiet (when stock!) smoothness of the rotary engine 😁

I also did the on-ramp GP during my lunch break, after taking it for a quote on the remaining rust in the arches - going to need both sides done completely (so that'll take care of other dings etc as well) as the guy knew all about how impossible velocity red is to blend (he has an MX-5 in the same colour). We had a good chat about Mazda's, rotaries, and rust :D

I'm looking at ~£1600 to get both sides done, which includes patching what will be a decent hole in at least one arch. I'll probably get the bumpers done too since they've got their share of chips & scrapes. But that will have to wait until spring, when I've recovered from the amount of money I've already spent on it. It might put off getting it bridgeported, which I was hoping to do in the first half of next year, but it's better to make sure it isn't going to turn to dust first!

Had her cleaned... in the past 2 weeks she's had new coils, leads, plugs and all filters, belts and fluids changed, so thought it was time to give the bodywork some love...

I honestly have no idea, but it’s been rebuilt be rotary revs about 2000 miles ago with the receipt/documents.

I bought it as I got a good deal on it so I thought it’s worth the risk seeing that my engine start up is getting worse every week.

Unfortunately not as the lad I got it from said that he wanted something “reliable”.... Which is a shame to be honest

Tried to fit a silicone reducer intake hose to fill the void between the revi scoop and the stock air box. (haven't been able to find anything else suitable to couple the gap, including items from the relevant threads)

I'd measured it wrong. It's not snug so could shift. So back to searching... or rethink the whole thing. Half tempted to SORN it.

Also managed to break the underside of the airbox pulling it out of the tray. Too heavy handed when I thought the feet had released. So all in a bit of a fail.

While pouring over the car looking for broken bits that need replacing (our bigpete is a legend btw :thumleft:), I discovered an unplugged connector by the expansion bottle.

If already come across mention of the dodgy level sensor, so it was not a shock at all to find the image of the parthenon light up.

I think it needs to be renamed to the Parthenon light! :D

Replaced my gear lever, luckily I have a spare gearbox out in the garden (as you do).

I was driving down the motorway yesterday, attempted to shift to sixth, and got a very horrible crunchy sounding attempt at reverse  It would appear that my gear lever was stuck in the press down mode. At first I assumed that the return spring was broken, but no, it's the big plastic sleeve/collar, it no longer grips the main ball firmly enough for the collar to operate the spring.

Thanks for the offer, the spare gearbox is from my first Rex that had serious issues with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, I doubt I'll be using it for anything more than a garden ornament ;)

Had it in getting a second hand AC compressor fitted, turns out it's leaking in the exact same way as the original (came off a similar mileage car, so must be a common failure time). So it's looking like the best option will be to fit a brand new compressor at about ten times the cost :(

That can wait until the new year.

Give Bigpete a go at supplying a compressor.
I had one off him and it has been faultless.

This is the second time it's been in, tbh at this point I think I'd rather take the hit on a brand new one and know its going to work, especially as the labour costs of fitting/gassing are starting to add up. At least with new parts it's done and dusted.

Whelp.. Ima just.. Be over here.. Removing my upper intake manifold. 😂

Angle grinders going to be coming out to carefully split the nut off so I can hopefully unscrew the bolt thread..

Managed to sort the rivnut issue thankfully with the help of my angle grinder... Its probably my favourite tool purchase so far... Something doesnt budge? CUT IT! Heh. See my project thread for some top quality pictures I swear.

Struts installed. Upper intake manifold almost removed. Should get the electric connectors off the back of the solenoids tomorrow... Going to clean up the top of the manifold because its all oily... And possibly remove more insulation around the bay. May also go find out the price of replacing the underhood insulation too..
