I've got stuff stuck on the rear bumper from when I removed the back plate that won't come off at all with any of the chemicals that should help... So I've bought a eraser wheel drill attachment

Rhino Rack are the make, the model is V2500 Sports roof rack. Not sure how easy they are to get hold of these days.

Edit: East peasy as it turns out. http://www.tbruk.com/sportz-roof-rack-5829-p.asp

Well the 'trip through Wales' didn't go well. As soon as I was doing 50 mph a repetitive low frequency noise became apparent. At first I thought it might have been an open quarter light or the boot lid not fully shut, but I couldn't find anything. Went round checking tyres, and noticed a lot of heat coming from one back wheel. A local garage reckoned the pad was well down, but as I needed just to get home wasn't investigated further. It's not apparent until 50 mph.
As new pads will no doubt be required, what is popular for ordinary road use?

Brake Cleaner (isopropyl alcohol), cellulose thinners (carefully), white spirit, WD40 surely one of those would shift whatever the adhesive is

Brake Cleaner (isopropyl alcohol)
Brake cleaner is typically tetrachloroethylene based isn't it? Not sure if that's safe for paint or not (probably is though). IPA certainly is fine for paint either way.

When I managed to spill some brake fluid #-o on the edge of the bodywork (wing fold under the bonnet edge) next to the fluid reservoir last year, we used copious brake cleaner on the area after mopping up the spill to remove any traces - paint looks fine 12 months on, although it's not as clean now as it was just after a dousing in brake cleaner! My anecdotal evidence therefore suggests it's fine on the paint!*

Maybe it's only safe if you mix it with dot fluid based on your evidence ;)

Thought the two might be different but I have used brake cleaner to get sticky crap off paint and it seemed fine afterward.

It seems like they make it out of various things, sometimes with TCE, sometimes without chlorine, sometimes naphtha... surprisingly vague! Bloody good stuff though whatever is in it.
