Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
So to round off my electrical ventures into faffing with the fusebox to add my own circuits, it's all done now! been at it most of yesterday afternoon and this morning, as I was having trouble getting the terminals seated properly inside the channel for them so that it was 100% always good to put a fuse in, but got there in the end, and now have sore knees as I parked it on the road to do it
Using a 12V to 5V transformer with dual USB outputs, i've now got my dashcam all in without using the cigarette lighter, and i've got a spare USB feed for anything else that's 5V in future. A second spare circuit in the box for my future interior lighting endeavours too, which i'll likely be adding switches in the centre console for next to where the seat warmer's are, hoping for semi-OEM sorta... but it will be functional more than pretty I guess. Or I might hope to use the heated seat switches themselves and just re-purpose them as the recaros aren't heated? Well, that's for another day in future anyways
Now passengers don't think i'm a slob as i've had all that trim off for a good few weeks now at this point wires dangling everywheeeere

Don't forget to leave a fuseway and switch location clear for your heated front windscreen upgrade

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
That's a thing? they do one of those in R3 for them rain sensor etc. gubbins? might be worth looking at if my screen gets chipped if it's not much more than a standard one... Although that depends on if the insurance will want to play ball and let me pay the difference I would love that in winter so there's less really difficult scraping to do

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Every time I looked online before I did this, everything was just "use an add in fuse kit" or "HEY! add in fuse, boi!" and I just dislike the concept of having a load of random unnecessary joints in there... Probably makes little difference, but it's just me and clean looking heh

I have a heated front screen and have fitted the wiring for two other members that have had screens supplied (special order) by Mazda Rotary Parts.

Less to my RX8 and more for my RX8. The driveway was finished today. So no more balancing my 8 on scaffold boards in order to get across rough ground from the garage to the road.
Just a bit of landscaping still to do.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I had the undertray off to locate a small oil leak and decided my subframe could do with some rust prevention. Out with the wire and poly abrasive wheels, then the full POR-15 treatment; "Marine Clean" degrease, "Metal Prep" etch and a coat of gloss black POR-15. I ran out of time to get a 2nd coat of paint on, so I'll do that asap tomorrow. Not a brilliant job, but should stop the surface rust that was building up on there

I'll think about it Dave
It would be a lot easier doing this sort of job on a ramp though, rather than lying on my back!

We replaced the missing undertray on the Skoda this morning and I have to admit it was a doddle with the lift, whereas it would have been a total pain without.

Currently dailying mine. Decided it probably wasn't worth getting another car before I leave for Japan toward the end of the year. Fortunately work isn't terribly far away, just enough to get it warmed up. My Impreza was very economical in comparison though, I do miss it.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I was driving my Kuro into central London daily up to last week.
In the end I had to give in and use public transport, Essex to Blackfriars every day was fun to drive but so costly.
£75 per week in congestion charges plus fuel was just killing me.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Eurgh! I decided to go on a public bus last year for the first time in 35 years.
Never again.
A journey in a car which normally took me 25 minutes took well over an hour and I was sat in a tin box with a load of general public, some of whom clearly were not in possession of all of their facilities. Then when I got to the bus station in the town I was greeted by Tramp's P!ss swilling drunks smoking in the covered walk ways.
No thanks.
I phoned Mrs Smutty and got her to pick me up.
