Got rear ended by a BMW, who then drove off without exchanging details, damage is limited to rear bumper, bent exhaust outlet, wheel arch liner and a small dent to the bumper mounting cross member behind the bumper, got his number and it's now in the hands of the insurance company to sort out, expecting them to right it off, but I'll buy it back as there are over £1500 worth of goodies on it and engine only has 10k on it since rebuild

It is drivable, damage is confined to rear passenger corner, so bumper, wheel arch liner, exhaust tip pushed in and a small bend to the end of the bumper cross member, which could be straightened with mole grips and a hammer. Rex will live on if I have my say. Used bumper is about £80 and arch liner about £40, most expensive pay will be exhaust, opportune time to replace with Ryan rotary performance system. Funnily enough i was on the way back from halfrauds after realising I had no spanners to change out decat ready for mot next Saturday

So spent an hour and a half swapping my killer cat back on the car, would you believe it, no rusty bolts that wouldn't come undone, even the sensor came out (with an adjustable of all things) or I was me there I sprayed a little grease onto the rear drop links (they are rod end style and looked a little dry)

Fitted the spare engine that came with T200 CAD into my soon to be sold VR RX-8. PhilR was a hero today working from 9:30 to 15:30 mostly under the car taking the Toyo cat back off and fitting the standard exhaust back on. How people fit engines single handed baffles me and without Phil I reckon I would still be out there and not a happy bunny!

Tomorrow just a bit of plumbing and wiring to secure and plug in, fill with oil and water (FL22) fit the battery and then its tension time of starting the engine da da da tadah!

Unhooked the C-TEK battery maintainer, rolled her out of the garage, and fired her up..first time in seven weeks..

Turned over a tad slower than usual, but caught and fired up,then took her for a little run on mostly dry roads as I do now and again over winter..

..ran the A/C,no probs there, everything working OK..looking forward to bringing her out of hibernation full time ;)

Since my 8 got retired from being our daily she can sometimes go a month between outings. [-X

Apart from a little hiccup with the ESS a couple of years ago*, she always starts without hesitation and runs just fine. :crossesfingers:

*got a replacement from BigPete and that fixed it; despite the replacement still sitting in the glovebox

So the big of plumbing took a bit longer than expected today and then I had to break off at lunch time due us having friends over for the afternoon.
With the labels on the numerous pipes and plugs I was confident that it would simply be a case of A to A, B to B etc: air jet. But the air jet hose only reached across to near the thermostat housing but the connection to the air jet spigot is of course low down on the inlet manifold. With no pipes left where I had stored all the parts as I stripped the engine I was stumped. Time for a coffee and sit on a box staring into the garage, nothing! Google search for a diagram and bingo there was a metal pipe showing going round and down to the spigot, but where the heck had I put it. I had unbolted the inlet manifold off my failed engine and being street ported did not fit it to this engine, I simply picked up one of the other three inlet assemblies I had and bolted that onto the engine not realising that there was a metal pipe that led from from the air jet spigot up to the top of the engine to where my labelled hose ended. There was the pipe still bolted to the manifold I had removed, note the word bolted.
The main mounting bolt is the long bolt in the centre of the inlet manifold which cannot be removed with the auxilliary air supply pipe to the exhaust.
Finally managed to get the "missing" pipe fitted after much juggling and muttering, but minus the two locating brackets.
"TIME YOU WENT IN THE SHOWER AND WENT TO PICK UP JUNE & SUE" I heard so the big start up must wait till tomorrow afternoon now.
Once I know the engine is OK then it's off with the Meister Coil overs, White Line ARBs (Not Selling), Eibach spacers, Stainless steel V Crest, Sat Nav Gauge Unit and Lambo Hinges (Sold) and up with the car and bits sale post.
So starter motor to fit, oil and FL22 to pour in and it's fingers crossed time when I turn the key!

10 seconds with the accelerator to the floor, released and engine started instantly!
Blowing exhaust flange, but no fluid leaks and good oil pressure.
First time the engine has run for over 5 years, just a spot of oil and turn over each year.

Only a week after committing it to my workshop for the rest of winter to concentrate on aesthetic mods inside and out, she is back on the road to temporarily take the place of my daily BMW 335d. Which decided to blow up on the M25 yesterday on the way to see a friend of a friends McLaren Senna. Luckily took it over there today and got to have a good drool...

Trusty RX8 to the rescue. Who said diesel BMWs are more reliable than rotaries....???
