Similar to what I did I ended up after drying them out properly sealing them around the gaskets with roof and gutter sealant it's done the job perfectlyJudderman wrote: ↑Tue Jan 04, 2022 1:07 pmInvestigated why i had low brake fluid twice in the space of a few hundred miles….
Turns out the rear drivers Caliper was weeping via the piston. Changed the seals, and all seems good now. Gave her a wash.
And fingers crossed have FINALLY stopped the rear light from letting water into the boot. Put some foam draught excluder for doors around the holes on the body .
What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
New to me diff arrived today, pulled the drain plug and it appears I have 1 finger from the torq sensing cage that has let loose, although no further metal(apart from the normal ultra fine stuck to the magnet, unlike my current diff that had a few bits of extra chunky metal attached as well as a finger at 60,000 mile oil change, it now has over 100,000 miles and still works so not too fussed) crown wheel looks too have minimal wear and no pitting in the teeth, backlash is minimal but I will be pulling the carrier out and replacing pinion bearings and side bearings and seals (hope I can source the side seals through work they are a double lip style, as for the pinion seal, that may be a little more specific as it has a metal shield on it but who knows) may have to source the crushable sleave from a specialist (unless I add shims to gain a little more crush)

This is a psa for garages not to ugger dugga the lug nuts otherwise they will never come off and a simple wheel change becomes a tow home by the AA just in time as well as the jag was booked in tomorrow for it's MOT crazy timing
Also I seem to be loosing first gear in the 8 Happened 3 times on this trip alone and once at the weekend when I took it out had to set off in second gear or sometimes first would magically work again, I need to phone RR back tomorrow as I guess it's to do with the squealing noise coming from the clutch as I missed their phone call today about it because I was driving

2k miles on the RRP ones atm so doubtfully but you never know new clutch, fly and counter weigh as well with 2k on it I did notice my bite point does feel a bit higher although that could be from not driving it as often latelymrspiller wrote: ↑Wed Jan 05, 2022 7:21 pmEngine mount ?Nanotrox wrote:Had to go pick the family up in the 8 today the jag broke down on the motorway the sun was horrible hardly see anything on the motorway

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I never had any issues with the RRP engine mounts and gear changes, when was the gearbox oil last changed, any chance the PPF measurement is out?

possibly for the PPF? I'd assume the gearbox oil was done 2k ago with the engine rebuild? although I don't know if that bit is touched

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
no need to drain the gearbox to remove the engine, so no guarantee they did the oil...
it does sound like a clutch issue although the PPF being miles out would Possibly do it too...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
powerplant frame, the big iron girder connecting the gearbox to the diff.
as for why, problems develop over time. im not confident it is the PPF but its worth a quick look...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Received the new to me low mileage differential on Wednesday and have started to look into it, it appears that the cone clutches have suffered the usual damage to the tabs, whilst searching the manufacturer I found a link to an eBay repair service in northern Ireland that I believe repair the super LSD for the mx5 and the rx7 I've just messaged them to see if this service is available for the rx8 the link is here..

Same here - I think that's a service quite a few of us would be interested in to help prolong our drivelines.
Next find a good deal on gearbox rebuilds...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I think differentials are an easier build than gearboxes in as much that there are fewer parts that are build specific, gearboxes need to be stripped down first then parts ordered to suit the specific box, a diff has 4 bearings a ring and pinion then the clutch realistically. But either way I will update if and when I get a reply and will also pose the question about a collaboration

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Aye it was somewhat tongue in cheek, gearboxes are obviously big money to rebuild for good reason!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I suppose if you had a supply of cheap gearboxes you could "recondition" them, sort out the good bits and try and make a good one out of several, although usually it's the same gears that have issues but you might get lucky, use new bearings and seals.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
If I don't get anywhere with this company I may look at getting my clutch rings welded/reinforced as one is in 2 pieces and the other has a crack) then look at securing them in places with loctite 638 retainer, there is a substantial mating surface for the bond
