See club tyre prices page pinned at the top ^ tyre leader I think is the one, about £80 a corner.

What size/profile did you go for Chris? :D

MyTyres were the cheapest online but then did not have any stocks! Camskill were next at £384.60 delivered. I just went to my local tyre depot for the swap over to find that my contact there has left and so instead of a cash job it cost me £65 to have the four tyres swapped over and balanced and one of the originals fitted to a wheel I have just refurbed. Not unreasonable I don't think.
These should be nicely "scrubbed in" by the time I have driven to Brands on Saturday. Took a peek at the pads whilst the wheels were off and they should just do me for Brands.

I was curious about the wet grip rating for the Federal 595 RS-R, so I checked their website.
The 245/35R18 has a rating of C, which is fine for dry/damp trackday use but you wouldn't want to be driving down a wet motorway on them.
Strangely the 265/35 and 285/35 have a wet rating of E, which would be very scary in the wet and just shows that tread pattern isn't designed to clear water, especially as it gets wider.

In comparison, many modern road tyres are now achieving so much better than the A rating that consideration is being given to "AA", "AAA" & "AAAA" grades, as they've had to do for consumer goods energy ratings.

Yes the tread pattern is certainly not grooved enough for really wet weather, hence the P Zeros are going onto refurbished wheels for use between track days.

I wonder if Round Trip Tyres are a new addition as for some reason I went with Tyre Leader. At the time they were a few quid cheaper than they are now. I went 235 mind, hence the *£87 figure :D about time for another set as well, good thing they're somewhat cheap!

The Nankang NS2-R I had seemed to do fairly well on a wet track considering - may explain the approx B wet grip rating they had. Or perhaps just my sed8 driving.

Can’t comment on NS-2Rs on a damp track, but they’re not great on everyday damp driving, but that could be the roads.

Fantastically grippy in the dry though!

Get every last bit of gasket off of both parts and use plenty o'brake cleaner to remove every trace of oil before refitting. Ideally leave it a day before adding oil back in after fitting to ensure RTV has set. Don't want to be removing it again in situ I'm sure!

No idea yet Mark.

Ben's had it since last Tuesday, but hasn't had a chance to look at it yet.

I'm sure once he is able to look at it, it'll be diagnosed & fixed pretty quickly (I hope) ... but when you're missing your 9k rpm fix every extra day feels too long! And a diesel Mondeo (my daily) doesn't really fill that gap!

And don't get any rtv into the blind bolt holes or you'll split the cases as you torque them up.

^ also dis

Also get all the bits of RTV that Mazda may have put inside the bolt holes out with a pick.

May also be worth gently running an M6 x1.0 tap through the holes as some aren't blind and can get gunked up.

Also be careful torquing them up, even with a torque wrench set correctly I've had them strip >:( probably better off doing them by hand after setting a torque wrench quite under-spec.

Huw I'm pretty sure Mazdaedit will work on Fords as they have a somewhat common platform, so I can set your diesel Mondeo rev limit to 9k if you like. What's the worst that could happen with me extending your rev limits...

cheers for the tips, both surfaces are really clean, I will run a tap through each bolt, didn't think that bit of gunk could split a case :O
pick above was only halfway through cleaning gunk off. surprised how small the bolts are for it, I need to figure out what to use to "restore" the bolts, I dont fancy putting them on and painting over, as will be a pain later on. but dont want rust bolts going on nice paint.

Ummm ... based on the Go-Go-Gadget-Smoke-Screen I get at 3k-4.5k ... my guess would be that Coventry would disappear under a dense black fog!

So literally no downsides!

Other than my internal combustion engine becoming very much an external combustion engine! #-o

Decided to start on a diy refurb of some alloys, took a while to remove all the wheel weight adhesive
IMG_20180616_130838.jpg
Also drained the oil (shell helix 5w40), noticed a slight amount of debris on the magnetic drain plug, would this be from the housings?
IMG_20180616_191158.jpg
First change since I've had a magnetic sump plug so hopefully it's remains from before I had a rebuild, will check next time I change the oil.

I hope so, it is a minuscle amount.
I'm used to seeing swarf from the gearbox but not from the engine (probably would see some if the paper oil filter was taken apart and unfolded).
It's odd Mazda didn't include a magnetic one as standard, my previous cars have all had them.

The R3 has a sump magnet. So just took Mazda a while to use them again.
