Replaced completely knacker o ring in my premix tank, and filled half way. Of course it started to rain when I was doing this #-o

Hopefully this stops the leak, though I think the thread is slightly knackered as it won't tighten up as much as the others. Tightened as much as I could before it 'pops' back and is loose again. Finger crossed this fixes it, or Combe will be looking doubtful. [-o<

if hat doesnt work, try wrapping the loose thread in a few wraps of ptfe tape, should tighten the joint up.

Been doing some repair to paint some before after still work in progress but trying to get it to jdm so some bitss will have to wait hopefully done for next show but takes time lolImageImageImageImageImageImageImage

Have been away from the forum for a while as circumstances changed and have had to store the RX8 at my parents, this is the first time I've used my car properly this year!

I purchased a blobeye WRX for a winter car as it was going for a steal so couldn't resist and have been driving that (RX8 is too low to park), it's now off the road for some maintenance so the RX8 is back in play.

Swapped on some Summer tyres and gave a quick polish then went for a quick drive out of London and ended up at the coast :oops:

Forgotten just how planted and quick this car is on B roads, I think in the real world (without going well into licence losing territory) it's probably quicker than the WRX despite having half the power as it gives far more feedback, with the Subaru 4WD you have to think on how to drive it to get to go where you want whereas with the RX8 it comes naturally.

Flipping in and out of second and third gear keeping it in the rev band also feels so satisfying and involving with the RX8's gearbox =D>

I have spent the morning fitting oil pressure,oil temp and water temp gauges.everything works just fine,there is something very reassuring about seeing a physical display,particularly the oil pressure.
Will go for a spin tonight just to see them all light up,especially as i have a choice of 7 colours.Rob. :D

Starting to think my 8 has started to take a bit longer to turn over whilst hot. Hoping it'll just be weak spark plugs since they are due to be changed very soon.. Not managed to have a look at what coils are in it yet but I have a receipt for new coils + leads from 2014 I think it was. It doesn't specify what leads were used and I presume it was OEM coils and not some cheap kill the engine type.

Actually it was just 2 coil packs which seems odd.. Why not change all 4 if you're changing 2? £91 each. And the leads were £46. I presume they are still the leads on the car now. Seems a bit sketchy to me. Also had a new cat at £245 at the same time...

so here they are,very simple to fit and work well. would i be right in saying,that by using rb sandwich plate for oil pressure,the gauge would read less than true pressure? :D

The gauges look good Rob.
Can you rotate them in the housing so that the pointers when in their average or standard reading are all aligned?.
This is not just for neatness but for ease of reading that all is ok.
Where did you find in the bulkhead to bring the wiring etc through from the engine compartment?

There isn't really such a thing as "true pressure". The pressure is highest just as it exits the oil pump. It then drop as it crosses every restriction in the system. So a tiny bit is lost from the coolers and cooler pipes. The pressure into the filter should be close to the highest, and some pressure is lost through the filter. The peak pressure up to this point has all been controlled by the rear relief valve, and some small pressure drop will occur across this valve. More pressure is lost through the ports in the e-shaft, and some pressure is bled away by the rotor jets. Then a lot of pressure is lost across the e-shaft and rotor bearings. When cold the front relief valve will open, causing a drop in oil pressure in the e-shaft. The final pressure drop is the omp feed reservoir (although this is a tiny drop, because it takes a tiny amount of oil. Finally, the oil is squirted back into the sump, and the pressure drop through the sump return feeds drop the pressure to atmospheric. So the oil that is squirted back into the sump is at much lower pressure than the oil exiting the oil pump.

I guess the oil pressure sender can be placed into any of the oil pipe fittings, or into a filter sandwich plate. The filter sandwich plate is the last available location before the oil enters the engine, so it should therefore record marginally the lowest pressure of the available measurement locations, but it's always still higher than what enters the engine. If you can get to the union of the pipe from the front of the engine to the left hand cooler then you should measure the highest pressure. But it makes no odds really. There is an argument that measuring at the sandwich plate is best, because it will tell you if your pipes, coolers, and possibly your filter, are blocked, and what pressure is actually entering the engine.

Note. The RB sandwich plate measures the pressure as the oil enters the filter, so a blocked filter should show up as an increase in pressure, not a decrease.

Thanks both.John, the best way in from engine bay was small hole drilled through the ruber grommet carrying the bonnet release cable.By doing this ,you are protecting cables from rubbing on metal.The needles do all line up when up to full temp,and revving at around 3 to 4k

Found the secret red glow mode on the rev counter (always been white on my s1)

Arranged getting all the oils and fluids for a big service. Getting ahold of a compression tester next week too to use when I do service it. Currently still a bit iffy on hot starts. :(

no.not at all surprised,i spent many years mending cars and trucks for a living...just driving now for an easy life.
just not done much on rx8s....i remember many years ago i used to service 2 nsu ro80s,man and wife...teachers had 1 each,they were the only rotarys i ever touched.

and you think 8s have a short engine life span...i think they were on their 3rd engines,i seem to remember they got fitted with v4 ford engines after a while,that was the popular fix back then.
