Messed myself when driving hme just heard a pop and then loads of blue smoke out the back of the car luckily I was just round the corner from mine

Feared the worse but hoped was just an oil burp as I topped the oil up a couple of days ago

Take the intake pipe off oil everywhere relief as musta been an oil burp

Cleaned everything up and everything running fine

The fear of having blown another engine gone

Went upstairs and changed my pants lol

Swapped out power steering module after power steering failed, managed to read code with an icar3 dongle and forscan, was throwing internal fault code, sourced a replacement from big Pete (thanks big Pete) fitted it today, can't believe how light the steering is, need to get used to it all over again.

Timed my cold start today 10 seconds of nothing, smell of fuel, thought flooded but kept the key turned, revs started to fall, kept the key turned and after some weak splutters and 30 seconds the engine fired up. Immediately went out for a drive and car drove faultlessly, pulling smoothly and quickly all the way to the beep. Oil and water temps both settled at 90'C.
Back home left it for 30 minutes and hot start was 5 seconds.
Most puzzling?

The Mazda dealer in my old neighbourhood is the first to go through Mazda’s recent effort here in Japan to make its dealerships feel more upscale. Since the wife and I were nearby for lunch yesterday we dropped by to check it out. The place is totally transformed! It used to be a typical boring dealership with white walls and fluorescent light, like most other Japanese dealerships around here.. but now it resembled some luxurious European car maker show room instead. Felt more upscale and chill than before. Even has a cafe so you can just drop by for a coffee in a car setting. Apparently they’re slowly converting their network here (currently their Tokyo main dealership is being rebuilt).

Maybe it doesn’t belong in this thread(?), but I drove there in the 8 so there is that.

Yeah, I think that’s exactly what they’re aiming for. Might be a good idea as the generic Toyota dealer like design they usually have isn’t very inspiring and doesn’t differentiate them from the other Japanese brands.

Good news on the rebuild Bex. As Dazza says (I think) where is it going for the rebuild?
(I swear there must be a secret decoder ring for Dazza's posts - I just haven't found it in my breakfast cereal yet! )

Mine's just been booked in to get the Mini imprint from Saturday removed from the back bumper... :(

Looked at a few places being in Hampshire and the car now not moving very far at all location played a part. When I do work for my customers I go above and beyond and they only get what they exactly wanted at a level I would be happy about. My work ethics makes me a really nervous customer as I know others don’t always have my expected standards. Though I’m hoping the fact I plan on taking it shows and their work will get mentioned a lot be it good or bad! I hope sways them to do the best. My other fear is We bought all the stuff for the service before it became undriveable , it’s on the car but not used at all, so is as new, and I will be a little gutted if they take that stuff off and if it comes back with worse quality stuff on it. It’s going to Wiltshire rotary motion.

Hopefully not too much damage for you to fix, what was it that bumped it? i have had similar luck this week in my other car. Someone decided to park on its front wing. :?

And dazzas posts don’t seem too illegible, :thumleft: predictive texts is a nightmare, catches me unawares all the time.

A Mini One, at pretty low speed fortunately.

To my untrained eye, and with a bit of grovelling in the dirt on Saturday to compare it to Dan's R3, I think it's just the bumper which has been a bit deformed and ruptured (nothing underneath looked obviously misaligned/broken). I suspect it will be a replacement bumper and most of the total cost will likely be blending in the VR paint.

Then cut a hole in my ashtray so I could locate it somewhere it was reachable without being in the way.
Another job done.

Not to worry you of course but this takes me back to 2005 and my rear end shunt saga, 6 attempts on the first replacement bumper and a one on a second new bumper and I pulled it out of the mainstream body shop and went to a local independent who matched the paint first time.
If it looks good in daylight then check it under sodium street lights too as it may go pink. On the flip side I am on my 3rd 2nd hand bumper which is a good match so it can be a case of luck.
