Loving all the red under the bonnet Dave. The hoses go really well with the coils.
Good job swapping out the rad, not something I would fancy doing.

I was about to quote man up Dave , your ankle won’t hurt laying downDave2112 wrote:Well today I decided to swap out the radiator after the little top hose connection on the rad snapped off. What a ball ache of a job, made twice as hard doing it with my busted ankle. (Lots of swearing). Incredible the amount of bits needing removal just to get the dam thing out. Of course a lot of the fixings were seized and snapped while trying to undo, (despite copious amounts of WD40) so had to source new from screwfix which added time, well waiting for them as I sent Karen to get them.
Oh and I also took the opportunity to clean up and paint the crossmember as well.
Then I thought , Karma , wind your neck in spiller
Fair play to you

It wasn’t the lying down that was a problem it getting back up again
Yeah the two top ones were the biggest b***** you can’t get a socket on them and a spanner just rounded them off.
I lost my rag in the end and cut a notch out with the grinder to allow better access

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
After being MOT'd last month, I taxed the PZ today and treated it to being actually used. A bit bittersweet, as it also means it's getting close to the time it needs to be sold to put some cash into the wedding fund (unless the government save me by keeping them restricted for a few more months!).
It rewarded me by depositing an anti roll bar drop link on the road. Ball joints still attached to the car, drop link... not so much. Ordered a replacement for both sides from Essex Rotary.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Decided it was time to do a little servicing on the car today, so swapped out the diff oil, quick job stopped halfway through by rain, I can only think skindred must of being working on his car at that time, job itself was easy, I'd brought a pump from the range a little while back and this made the job a doddle, the oil that came out was a little worse for wear, it had been changed at around 42,000 miles and the car is now on 86,000

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I did, for a start it's not fully exposed to the oil, secondly I've never had a copper washer fail to seal, but you can always anneal it by heating until it glows then quench in water (the opposite to steel) or if you don't want to take the risk I'm sure they are really cheap

It's a pain that you have to buy 2 bottles of redline just for the sake of a third of the the second bottle

If the copper washer looks like it's not too thin reuse it. I replaced mine because I got a bag of however many for dirt cheap so in my mind it was just a "do it whilst there" but the old washer was quite serviceable.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I take off the shifter and pour it in via that instead of the upper drain plug to get a greater capacity of oil into the box, probably a placebo but it seems to extend the working time of the box on track before it gets too hot and starts to grind when changing on 3rd and 4th gears.

This is for diff not gearbox.untakenname wrote: ↑Thu Jul 02, 2020 3:05 pmI take off the shifter and poor it in via that instead of the upper drain plug to get a greater capacity of oil into the box, probably a placebo but it seems to extend the working time of the box on track before it gets too hot and starts to grind when changing on 3rd and 4th gears.
On the gearbox though it is commonly considered better to slightly over fill

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Looks good, just wondering if any other colour other than body colour match would work?
Carbon wrap would be nice but that would be an absolute pain to do and not sure if that shape can be hydrodipped?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I could try the gun metal metallic to match the strakes, V and bits inside the car. I fear it would be to much as one block colour though. Maybe black sides with the wing section being coloured?V8 Power wrote:Looks good, just wondering if any other colour other than body colour match would work?

I've got plenty of time to decide as the amount of repairs and gel coat it needs it's going to be a long burn project.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Decided that today was the perfect day to install some new front upper control arm bushings and springs.... That was before it started bucketing it down.
Let me know if any of you want a diy for it... though it was a giant pain to do on the drive.

What have you done to your RX-8 today????
So
With all the house decorating completed .....well almost
I’ve been able to spend some time on the cars
Yesterday I fitted my replacement shiny alloy Radiator then spoilt it by refitting the a/c rad. Excellent fit with no need for any fettling
Then today a remodelling and fitting of the front bumper/splitter.
All went to plan until one of the clips front of the o/s indicator decided to brake and spoilt the day
