Plugged the 192 into the charger. Got a flatty. Don't think it has been driven for two or three weeks and I hadn't plugged the trickle charger in. Oops!

I have a similar crack in my dash. I'm assuming it's heat affecting the weak lines that the airbag bursts through. Do you have a plan to repair? I expected it to be a replacement job.

No plan as yet. I was hoping to find a replacement part when there is a breaker but done nothing about it so far.BarbedWire wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 5:32 pmI have a similar crack in my dash. I read it was sun damage related and apparently fairly common. Not sure if it can be repaired and as you say only option is prob replacement. If you fix do let me know how as I'll likely go down the same route and I'll do likewise if I get there before you. Thx.

Went digging through my parts bin and found a spare that fits. Bloody weirdwarpc0il wrote: ↑Thu Apr 29, 2021 8:33 pmOkay, it seems that there were two versions of the R3 19" wheel fitted during production.
However, both have since been superceded with later versions as spares holding.
All are superficially the same design, but there are two different versions of the wheel centres (Cap, Centre) to match.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
To find the source of a small oil leak I removed the nearside front wheel arch liner. The inner metal bar stiffener had seen better days and was very rusty, so I made a new one, with rivnut fixings instead of the horrid self tappers:
Here it is attached to a cleaned up liner (with some extra cooling louvres too) :

I've got to fit the Lockwood grilles tomorrow and am dreading removing the front bumper. I can foresee multiple broken scrivets (I have some spares) and knackered screws (of which I have no spares) and an inability to get the damn thing back on the car again!

I went on ebay and brought a load of M6 spire nuts and flanged button head Allen bolts for the front of the under tray, at least I know they'll hold fast and come undone.SmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 8:21 pmI've got to fit the Lockwood grilles tomorrow and am dreading removing the front bumper. Don’t forget the bolts/screws located at the rear of the side repeaters, they aren’t very visible. Have another pair of hands to help you pull each side out and clear if the wings paint.SmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Fri Apr 30, 2021 8:21 pmI've got to fit the Lockwood grilles tomorrow and am dreading removing the front bumper. Picking mine up from its undercoating top-up this morning, will likely take it for another thrash. Was going to put the cheap cat in today, and dry out/fit Essex rotary seals to my tail lights, but I remembered I'm not on call for work this week so I'll be spending the weekend out and about.

30405 messaged me with an eBay link for one last night so I've ordered it. In terms of easy to do.... last time I removed the glove box I broke the dampener trying to put it back, so may give it a go or more likely ask the next specialist who works on my car to do it for me...

Went to install the RB RAM air duct today and well turns out my current intake / VFAD is smashed and the crash bar is bent / warped so looks like it's had a previous front impact front bumper you can see the repair on the inside had no idea from the outside, so couldn't install the air duct and looking for a new crash bar

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Air bag recall booked with Donald’s Mazda under very strict instructions to ONLY touch the airbag parts and NOT do a health check. Last thing I need is the numpties that work there messing with what is currently a nicely running car, which from their reputation is a big ask
Also booked in with Big Pete for a coolant tank with working sensor to be fitted (bye bye dash light ) and a compression test. No problems with hot or cold start and she’s currently running perfectly. Want to get the previous possible dodgy rebuild fear alleviated, if only slightly, so hopefully the numbers aren’t too bad

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Picked it up from HME today, can't be happier!
I thought it would be the same engine back with seals and bearings replaced, but it's a fully refurbished new engine, I'm beyond impressed. Mick was a superstar and cannot recommend him enough. Also made me very happy that he said he hasn't had a car in this good nick for a while, all that's left now is running it in. Wish I could keep the engine bay this clean...
And I also waved at Paul's car, I like the purple eyelids.
