Any RX8 would do as long as it's rust free, my car has so much rust that it probably won't pass it's MOT next month so I was looking to swap my recently rebuilt engine into a rust free shell.

I considered getting some new sills welded in but it's also rusting under the prop tunnel as well as under the stone chip protection so wouldn't be worth it economically to repair.

I've had a look at a few cheap low compression/hot start issues that are local to me and each ones has the signs of rust by the rear arch and sills, even a saw 40th anniversary that apparently had been garaged most it's life yet it was in really poor condition underneath.

I had a look yesterday on a whim as it looked promising in the advert but in real life its got the start of bubbling paint by the sills and rust coming through the rear arches where it meets the sills.

Felt really sorry for the guy as quite a bit of money was spent on it last month to get it through the MOT but he can't get insured on it as the minimum quote was over £3k!

On the plus side, cleaning everything fixed my hotstart issue, seems it was a combination of choking on oil and ancient plugs and coils.
Spoke too soon. I clearly hadn't had it up to temp before :(

Treated the track alloys to a bit of plastidip now that they've been repaired by Nick at MoT Motorsport :thumleft:

Started silver and now they're a sexy-ass gold colour :D

Surely there's plenty of rear doors the same colour for sale to just replace complete?? If the rest of the car is in good nick.

Replaced the air filter and fixed the front plate brackets which were hanging by a threat after an encounter with a kerb yesterday.

Question: is the air filter that difficult to replace? Saw on YouTube that it's a simple process. My air box opens exactly 3 mm less than necessary. It seems that the rubber flex between the MAF sensor and the throttle body is either longer than others or my air box is 10 mm too big.

It was a bit of a ***** to get out.

Squat, lean forward and push straight against the accordion piping with the air box closed. Lift it up, swing the lid over, job done. Image

It's easier on a hot day, or if the engine has been running, more squash on the accordion pipe.

Loving your wheels Dan!

I've gone slightly "Back to Black" Rustoleum crazy.

I've now done the front splitter to match the exhaust shrouds, which are all a lovely deep black. Nicely set off by my recently acquired silver "V" accent.

I'm pretty certain I am going to do my wing mirrors next. Drivers side, for some reason is very faded. Nearside one looks OK. Odd. Still getting sprayed though! :D

Don't forget on the 231 you have some vacuum pipes attaché to the rear of the air box that require disconnecting..

Changed the oil and filter, check when last done and it was 6k ago. Idle pressure is now 1.2bar up from 1bar and at 100'C 3bar comes up c1800rpm so well below the Mazda check rpm of 3000rpm.
Also changed the oil and filter on the Beemer 5ltrs fully synthetic Syntium and oil filter only £33 from ECP.
