9 weeks!
Wow you have the patience of a saint.

My patience levels seem irrelevent to the amount of time this is taking.

If I thought there was anything I could do (short of legal action ... that's been suggested to me, but feels too extreme - and probably complicated, time consuming & expensive) that would influence the speed of this, then trust me, I'd give it a whirl.
Try 9 Months following a failure or 3 years from start of project!
To be honest the legal rout wont speed things up may even slow it down. Also it is a place you don’t come back from.

Exactly.

While I think the timescales are rediculous for something as straightforward as a warrenty fix, I don't see legal action as the solution.

I agree, legal action could be costly and delay things even more.
Just one thing to bear in mind when getting an engine rebuilt.

Hi, managed to get rid of the annoying SVV actuator chapping noise today, just slipped a small piece of windscreen water hose pipe over the lever stop pin and it worked. I'll see how long the pipe lasts as its a tad hot down there but if it does coninue to work I may change it over for something more robust. Certainly saves on removing the SVV and rebushing it.

This is not what I done but I took my rx8 in to Mazda for the recall issue on the tank and they nicely fixed it for me but then reversed my car into a brick wall and scratched the rear bumper!

Phoned for an update on it - as it's been 9 weeks today since it went back.

The assembly of the new engine hasn't been started yet ... but if I phone back this time next week there might be some meaningful progress.
It takes less than an hour to assemble an engine, once everything is prepared that is.
This saga is unbelievable considering the rep that RR have on here. Why is Ben allowing this job to be delayed and delayed and delayed and risking putting people off taking their cars to RR.

Not a clue.

Whenever I ask around timescales I get told this is as quick as they can go with the workload they have and the staff they have available.

I did find it interesting that on another thread someone was saying that Ben was quoting 2-4 weeks for a new, paying rebuild. If that is the case, then either there's light at the end of the backlog tunnel ... or RR are prioritizing paying customers over those who have already paid.

Just had a PM from someone who's just picked their car up, and is fairly sure it's light at the end of the backlog tunnel.

Which, while it probably doesn't help me much - at least means that people thinking of a rebuild in the near future may receive a more timely service than I experienced.

Fitting radiator and oil cooler screens this evening. Oil cooler screens went in no fuss, but I wasn't prepared for what I saw attached to the ac radiator! The RB radiator screen doesn't have a chance of fitting to any of those bolts. Surely that thing isn't OEM? It looks like something from scrapheap challenge! ImageImageImage

That is the OEM screen protecting the a/c heat exchanger, mounted in front of the radiator, across the potential impact zone.

Most aftermarket meshes fit just inside the front bumper opening.

Used it to do a very local shopping trip today.
On a journey like that it's very difficult to do a beep and knowing the advice is to beep it at least once every time you go out it sent me wondering what is the actual reasoning behind that.

Would taking it to , say , 6000 revs for a longer period achieve the same result?

37mph iirc.
Fitted a switch to my remote control 'Demon Eye' mod as I came out of the house this morning and for some reason they were on, they work on the 433mhz frequency so perhaps something interfered.

The reasoning is to have it clear out or reduce the chances of any carbon deposits. I really don't think you need to take the advice quite so literally, just take the revs up high 'regularly' (which will depend on how often, what sort of trips, where you are driving and all sorts of other variables).
