Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I had a crack in the same position on RR54 when I got it. When the fitter came he showed me the plastic locating pin use in the factory which presses on the edge of the screen and often causes cracks. He had been to Bristol with a colleague at one time and replaced the screens on an entire consignment of about 200 new cars!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I have no idea I'm stumped, was out in the car this morning shopping no crack, was packing the car around 4pm no crack, went out to wash it at 6:30 and it's cracked
Very interesting to know, I'm going to phone the insurance up as I have windscreen repair as an option and see if I can get it fixed that way without affecting no claims or premiumsChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Wed May 04, 2022 8:49 pmI had a crack in the same position on RR54 when I got it. There's probably an excess on windscreen claims but your NCB should be okay.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Replaced the bulging P Zero today - I'll attempt to claim it back from the council, though I wont hold my breath!
Programmed the Visteon 41585 keys that I'd received a while back - as suspected, the boot pop works on them! I am so happy about this!
And after nearly 2 months since it was polished & PPF'd, I finally gave it a wash
Scrubs up bloody nice
In non-RX8 related news, I've also got the AC sorted in my Van (it was just a O-ring needing replaced, thank eff!), and have just fitted a cruise control kit to it - I got pinged doing 70 on a dual carriageway, as I didn't realise Vans that are classed as LGVs (like mine, as its a standard panel van) have different speed limits to cars (or passenger vans / camper vans): 70 on motorways, 60 on dual carriageways, 50(!) on single carriageways. So the cruise control will definitely help me there.

Dark Copper Gloss is the name, and it looks even better in the flesh - a really nice combination with the black of the car, nicely muted compared to something like a gold gloss.

I could swear I saw a car just like yours in Aberdeen a few days ago. I did a double take as it was the first one I've seen on the roads in months!rotatopotato wrote: ↑Thu May 05, 2022 11:48 pmDark Copper Gloss is the name, and it looks even better in the flesh - a really nice combination with the black of the car, nicely muted compared to something like a gold gloss.

Definitely not me, I haven't made it out to the far east yet
I think the black & gold/bronze/copper look is not uncommon.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Whipped the front bumper off today to get a tap through the tow eyes and mount up my bling Sparco tow strap. Replaced the AEM filter sock while I was at it (one disadvantage of the R3 - you can't reach into its mouth to get at the AEM air filter). Then ran the tap through the rear tow eye. Sorted for JDM Combe

Any details on that tow strap?rotatopotato wrote: ↑Fri May 06, 2022 8:10 pmWhipped the front bumper off today to get a tap through the tow eyes and mount up my bling Sparco tow strap.
I've noticed a few places that state they don't accept the standard rx8 towing eyes as they can shear off?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
They only "share off" because people only screw them in until the thread goes tight, due to paint/rust, rather than screwing them fully home.
The result is that the few turns of thread engaged can rip out, as happened to Nigel when his car got home after a clutch failure at North Weald.
Anyway, the same failure can/will occur with any tow eye incorrectly installed.
The Owners Manual shows the nut wrench being used as lever through the eye to screw in fully.

I'm a big fan of using my nut wrench to force it all the way in.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The strap itself is from Demon Tweeks (using the member discount), I then purchased this lifting eye bolt: as well as a 40mm M14 SS bolt + SS hex nut.
I also got a second hand M20x2.5 tap off ebay here: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/265223079871
I used a thick line of blue threadlocker along the length of the lifting bolt thread too. Screwing that all the way home after having run the tap through turned out to be the perfect length to come to a stop where the strap can be bolted on and poked through the bumper.

Not my car but 2 rx8 owners, replaced secondary air pump solenoid on 1(getting a dab hand at these now) and oil metering pump on the other(along with removing battery under tray that had severely rusted bolts)
