I find rotating the coils on the mounting plate makes for a neater installation:

Mine look like the ones in the link above (at least)
I took attach to engine ground a bit literally and stuck it on the alternator hinge bolt. Don't suppose it'll do any harm

Don't the Revs kits say attach to battery negative?
Might not do any harm, but can't beat straight to battery.

Real world differences are probably immeasurable, but grounding to the engine block as close to the spark plugs as possible is technically best. I ground mine to the knock sensor bolt.13Black wrote:Might not do any harm, but can't beat straight to battery.
In fact, just to be over the top, I split the ground cable into front and rear and terminated on each housing accordingly. But I'm weird like that

Once you have a connection to car metalwork, as you say the differences will be infintesimal, but making two connections will decrease the chance of a poor connection. So; not so weird, I'd say.In fact, just to be over the top, I split the ground cable into front and rear and terminated on each housing accordingly. But I'm weird like that

With light aircraft you often run two magnetos (simple mechanical ignition systems) so I wouldn't be surprised. D1170 ignition kit anyone?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
There are a number of military aircraft where the critical systems have triple or even quadruple redundancy - if you have 2 sensors reading the same and 1 reading differently then the system ignores the 1. With 4 it goes with the matching 3 or if 2 fail they are unlikely to fail to the same value as each other so it goes with the 2 that do match. At least, that's the theory!johnbb99 wrote: ...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Rather than redundancy, my splitting the grounds is more about giving each rotor-pair of coils the most direct connection to the spark plug. Apart from at the ring connector(s) the grounds are otherwise electrically separate, so if you were looking to reduce the chance of failure you would probably want to cross-bond the ground terminals at the coil end too. That however, would be bordering ridiculous

I recorded big chunks of the audio manual for the EH-101. I got so sick of the words Duplex and Redundancy!Ainmhidh wrote:There are a number of military aircraft where the critical systems have triple or even quadruple redundancy!johnbb99 wrote: ...

ediit - oops it wasn't duplex but a far sillier sounding word. Which I've now forgotten, or wiped from my memory.

Yeah I think I saw your install in a related thread, it looks awesome. I think I'm gonna copy the sh*t outta that!warpc0il wrote:I have my "underseat" sub neatly installed in the ski hatch.
I even checked but the alpine doesn't fit and also has the port facing the wrong way. Gonna see if I can return it and hunt for whatever it was you used! Did it fit in the enclosed ski hatch box or did you have to open the back?
How does it sound in the cabin? Do you get much rattle vibrations from the plastic housing of the ski hatch?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Mine's a Ripspeed PSR-135A, which I don't think they make any more.
https://www.gumtree.com/p/in-car-audio- ... 1214951502
The first one I bought was flaky having been left in a damp car but I only paid a tenner for it, with the complete loom.
The second I got for 99p plus a fiver postage, as it didn't come with the loom, though the unit was mint.
Somewhere along the line I picked up another one complete for couple of quid off Gumtree. Mint looking but not working.
The main issue with used ones is the jack socket for the remote control wire, which can get knocked or pulled sideways, so the contacts don't.
The socket is pcb mounted a very awkward to replace. I was going to resurrect both the spare units with cable-mounted sockets on short tails wired to the board, reinforced with some strain relief. The idea being to keep one as a spare and sell on the other. However, it's yet another job on my todo list.
The main reason i chose these units is that they have RCA and speaker-level inputs. Most subs only have RCA and there's no output on the OEM head unit. The speaker-level input isn't that great either as Bose used 2ohm speakers (rather than the usual 4 or 8ohm) so the impedance doesn't match.
I ended-up with an RCA adapter box with adjustable inputs. just don't bother trying to follow the instructions Regarding the sub the, width was perfect making it a snug fit, just added some foam behind to hold it tight to the front of the box. Nothing rattles though the whole rear seat pounds if I really turn the volume up. The sub has it's own volume control, which effectively goes from "a bit richer", thru "a pounding bassline" up to "WFT!"
They do come up on ebay and Gumtree, like this onehttps://www.gumtree.com/p/in-car-audio- ... 1214951502
