Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Turned the ignition key for the first time since Japfest Silverstone and……..1,2 vroom the engine started. Plumes of smoke for quite a while which is a bit if a concern but it ran smoothly and revs dropped normally as it warmed up.
Once warm I changed the oil and filter.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Well not specifically to do with my RX8 but RX8 club related. I won't be renewing my membership so wanted to thank everyone I have met along the road of Mazda ownership. Overall its been fun, not without its expenses and anguish. I can't say I really fell in love with rotary life, its ok but certainly not the greatest. The car has been faultless and other than maintenance its really not been any trouble, just doesn't really excite me. I'm not disappearing but as has been for a while now I won't be that active on forums and probably won't attend any meets or track days again.

Not the best pics but top up done today, think this will be an annual thing given the car is used year round, top up the protection before the roads get salty.
Also going to have the Jeep done as he has kindly given the same discount for it as the OC get.
Top Job
Lad also got his cills and chassis legs done.

At that price I would want it to be 100% petrol, none of your 5% ethanol stuff, but I imagine at that price people don't tend to run the pumps dry

1.40.9 for Momentum 99 up here (Glasgow), but of course that's lowly supermarket fuel and being Scotland it is E5. Though my car doesn't seem to care

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Not happy that there is a slight judder under braking above 60mph new discs and pads in April so I can only assume the face between the hub and disc is not perfect and has warped a disc.
To save time and buggeration new Hubs Discs and Pads ordered.
Also slight grumble near side rear bearing so that's also on the way,

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
If the seating was not perfect then I think you would have felt the judder straight away. Possibly more prudent to remove the discs, clean the mating faces (should have been done in April), abrade the disc surface to remove any pad deposits, abrade the pads surface to remove any glazing or deposits, perform a bedding in sequence then if it still judders buy the new pads and discs.Proactive wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 6:20 pmNot happy that there is a slight judder under braking above 60mph new discs and pads in April so I can only assume the face between the hub and disc is not perfect and has warped a disc.

I was also warned that it could take a few months for the mismatch to have a detrimental effect on the discs as they go through the heat cycle.
Everything I was warned about has come to pass in the timescale, so the only guarantee is to change the lot, should have done the Hubs back in April.

Not got the wit, will or patience to follow your advice, but much appreciated.

Its no particularly normal to have to replace hubs due to warping discs. How are your calipers?79398 wrote:The faces were cleaned but I was warned that you can't polish aChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Mon Oct 04, 2021 6:31 pmIf the seating was not perfect then I think you would have felt the judder straight away. (Goes without saying really) but its worth double checking the calliper slide pins work smoothly as well (just a remove, clean and re-grease 90% of the time). New pad clips etc too. Ensure where the pad clips are retained in the calliper bracket are free of gunk/rust etc. . Again, often overlooked by many and can give you all sorts of funky pad binding up issues The pads should 'slip' into the bracket. If they're giving you even the slightest bit of grief, something isn't quite right
All common knowledge to a decent tech, these floating callipers all work basically the same.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Your hub faces can't be 'that' bad can they? People generally grease between the hub face and disc, so rust isn't a massive issue there generally; its all sandwiched together pretty damn tightly anyways. something just sounds a bit wonky.
I'm sure you may of checked this, but you sure you have all your wheel weights still? ;P
