Thanks for all the responses re the cat heat shield. Is the OEM available anywhere or my only option is getting a broken cat with a decent shield on it?

I've seen a very effective cat heatshield made with an outer skin of this stuff
https://www.carbuilder.com/uk/embossed- ... m-x-1000mm
and layers of fire blanket.
However, that was on a Sierra Cosworth and I suspect that cat doesn't run as hot as a rotary.

So today I found out that someone at work has an incredibly clean bmw e30 so obviously I had to take a picture of it and my car. Please ignore how dirty my car is

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Spent today under the car again just a bit less time this time as well as tidying the shed up. Still looks a mess but less so now everything thats rubbish is in two cardboard boxes! Put another coat of Waxoyl under the car and checked the PPF measurement... Specs 48mm - 56mm~... Mines 38mm... No wonder my gears feel unresponsive and 2nd absolutely clunks its way in! My ex machanic completely disregarded the service manual pages I gave him and did things his own way! Probably why his labour came out to almost 20 hours to do my clutch last year. Oh well.. Did attempt to undo the nuts on the PPF transmission end but my breaker bar was bending just at the point where it'd start gaining purchase. So I left it be.. Finished putting the front bumper back on instead. Checked the voltage on the new battery 0 drain.. So the previous battery must've gotten damaged when I was trying to start the car with a dead coil. Dang oh well.
Just the number plate to sort for the MOT and everything should be golden! Oh and the cat O2 sensor when it turns up from BigPete in a couple of days. The car is now extremely dusty again so it'll be getting another wash once its outside. Also need to solder my cig lighter wire back together since I'm unlikely to be getting a bluetooth system this year.

Nick black completed my clutch change and brake fluid change in a day (9ish through to 5ish) so your guy was a slow coach to say the least.

Oh yeah I knew at the time Paul.. I probably could've done the job myself in less time.. Albeit more hassle on the floor than on a lift. But meh.. It had to be done just a shame he didn't follow my instructions. Going to take the car to a garage and get the ppf adjusted since I honestly can't drive it the way it is.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Finally received my new starter motor and battery terminal clamps today DHL has got to be the worse delivery company ever, I knew I wasn't going to be in last Thursday so arranged for them to be delivered to as pickup point, the delivery was delayed, than cancelled and returned to depot, no notification was received after this, waited Friday and half day Saturday before giving them as call, they reckoned there was an issue with the collection point, so I arranged to collect today after work from the depot drive there today (about 30 minutes out of my way) to find out was delivered to the pickup point, go to pickup point, I don't have the correct code, call DHL to they'll send one through (takes about 30 minutes) an hour later no code (spent 40 minutes waiting in the pickup point) called DHL again, they said the driver scanned the package, but the shop hasn't, go back to the shop, they scan the package hey presto I get a code in less than 1 minute, at no point was I advised as to what was happening but DHL. Poorer wrapper on the package looked like it's been as staffy play thing, say I've took pictures in case there is an issue.
What a day, at no point though, did I swear, it's a good job I'm as nice person!
Rant over!
Ps. Don't use DHL for parcels

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Don't have an Ugga Dugga sadly Paul. Not yet anyway. I could ask my friend if I could use his airgun but that requires him being up at some point. And having the car in the air within reach of the airline he has.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The usual issue with filing down nuts edges is you lose the integrity when you apply pressure. It still goes in/comes out on a 22mm spanner it looks rounded as all hell but the spanner seems to grip happily on flats or on closed end. So itll do as a spare.. Gonna sort out getting the PPF adjusted so the car feels good to drive again and I dont destroy my gearbox.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
It makes a ridiculous amount of difference getting the PPF within tolerance. I had no idea about this until it was suggested to me so I took the car to Bigpete. He has a whopping great heavy duty breaker bar to hand for this sort of thing.Yorindesarin wrote: ↑Tue Nov 17, 2020 7:27 pmThe usual issue with filing down nuts edges is you lose the integrity when you apply pressure. The drive home was lovely. Every gear change was smooth a slick and true.

Yeah before I had my clutch changed every gear change was basically pristine.. Now 2nd is miles away... Clunks awfully.. 4th grinds and 6th can be a pain to get into sometimes.
