Bought a New Mazda 231 Engine from Racing Beat.
Yes Mazda still make new engines, I have posted a link in that particular thread.
Won't be going in for a while as I want to replace the Engine mounts with Mazda Stock units, the Clutch, again with a stock product and a new stainless steel Manifold, the only concession to non stock items, may also take the opportunity to put a COFS in whilst the installation will be easier.
All of which will have to be saved up for, given that I have just spent 10 X what I originally paid for the car for the engine.
Probably all being well around 6 months.
I will then get the existing Engine tested and rebuilt if required, if not it can be mothballed for the future and called upon if and when required. πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž
Group B motorsport in Llandudno can get hold of New Mazda engines aswell. Was many years ago when i had my PZ and was eyeing up options if it ever needed it. Instead they overhauled it with new uprated ignition coils, plugs, leads etc and a good service. Never needed to take them up on the engine in the end. Think they're Rotary guy has long left by now but im sure they still have contacts for parts.

If you want to DIY swap and rebuild the old one as a project id be happy to lend a hand.

Oh and i clay barred, platinum polished and Meguirs Ultimate paste wax compounded the car. You can now not directly look at it in sunlight with the white pearls. Its like being snowblinded.....

Cheers Drew for the offer but the thought of even considering a DIY project fills me with dread as I have not the wit or the will to even start.😳
Don't need the engine as a replacement as there is nothing wrong with the existing oneπŸ‘ just hope she doesn't find out she has a replacement heart in case she decides to throw a wobblyπŸ‘πŸ˜ŽπŸ€£
The existing Engine will be tested and used as a spare if and when needed, just future proofing the car really.

Oh i see. I had thought the same myself of putting a crate R3 engine on the shelf, when i recover fully from buying this one maybe next year. At 23k miles though its unlikely going to be needed for 10 yrs, i just worry that by the time mine lets go, there will be no new ones in production and who knows specialist wise given the rx8s rarity already, as sad as a thought that is to have.

RX8 have a bad rep with needing rebuilds as it is. Now we have people replacing them when they don't even need to

Had been toying with this for my R3 also, although that will be at least a fair few years down the line  can't justify buying one yet

Sounds like a swap party is required. Maybe a 24 hours of swaps.

Get every member wanting to swap a new/rebuilt/new to them engine together and see how many the club can do in time. Would make an entertaining video and livestream. Maybe for charity?

Waiting months for a replacement engine if anything were to happen to the original would drive me to despair, the fact I can have a new one next week seemed like a no brainer πŸ‘πŸ˜Ž

Or of course this is another option. Given ive owned more Type Rs and S2000s cars than most Honda dealers πŸ˜‚ can work on them in my sleep. Never converted or slotted one in an rx8 though.....

Trouble free trip to the MotoGP at Silverstone. :thumright:
Lots of sitting in queues of traffic on the way in surrounded by bikes

Parking steward looked concerned regarding ride height and asked if I'd like to park where right height wouldn't be an issue - top man :thumright:

Getting out of the field again would've been an issue if it had rained - couldn't get my foot under the front when it was on the grass so was happy to be parked elsewhere 8)

Can confirm the MotoGP is stupid loud, stupid fast and we loved it :P

Wished it a happy birthday! 15 years ago on 1st Sep 2006 I picked up this beauty from the Mazda dealership.

I still remember the drive home that day and many more epic memories with it ever since. Here's to hoping there's still many more to come.

I do like them but think they have gone a touch pricey. I asked for a quote to wrap my daily merc coupe excluding the glass roof obviously. It looks a pretty simple car to wrap with pillarless doors etc but they said about Β£2800. I had my other merc straightened on a crash jig and nearly full respray for 1400? Be cheaper to have the car sprayed.
