Having recently cut out the 2 bolts you mention,it is very likely that the bushes will be badly worn too,you may need to trash the arms to get them out. It may be better to put the feelers out for a pair of arms early.

Yeah unfortunately that may be the case.... I've just read an old post by "Freewire"(ex member) who did a good write up on removing seized bushing bolts. So will have another stab using his advice today....
But yeah, think I'll have to start the looking around for a whole front arm assembly for an R3(and order a spare cam bolt while I'm at it).

I've just looked under my cars and the bolts and cams on the 192 are shiny and grey. I don't imagine there will be much of a problem getting some XS in them when it arrives.Ross R3 wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 8:47 amYeah unfortunately that may be the case.... The PZ is caked in Waxoyl, so we will have to see what condition everything is in when that is all scraped off. I might take it to the mechanic around the corner and get him to stick it on his lift.

Got a van on Tuesday so today is the first time since then I've taken the car out - keeping it taxed & insured, might revisit that next winter though.

Replaced the coils, leads and plugs from Ryan Rotary Performance. Broke a vacuum hose connector. Oops. So to sort that and see how she runs.

Did exactly the same thing when changing mine! It's this cold weather, doing it in the summer, those little puppies slide off a treat.NEAS wrote:Replaced the coils, leads and plugs from Ryan Rotary Performance. Broke a vacuum hose connector. Oops. So to sort that and see how she runs.

Okay, and now we're back....
I have "removed" the offending posts and unfortunately this has necessitated the removal of some innocent posts as well, so as not to leave orphans behind.
None of these have actually been deleted, as they have been moved to a Moderators review area to determine what, if any follow-up action may be required.
Please don't bother trying to resurrect the previous debate here, which had already gone off the rails, or take this thread further off-topic into Moderation rules and guidelines.
Let's just agree that this isn't Facebook.
If you want to influence the way the OC and the forum are managed, then let me remind you of the up-coming AGM

Wanted to get it into the lean too today, but gave up.
I need to aproch it in a way that I won't mix things up, as this is my first attempt at sub frame work. Any words of advice?

Put some wheels on to move them around. Makes it much easier.
Edit: that sounds way ruder than I ment. It was light jest. Plus it does actually help.

Fitted a replacement vacuum hose connector. Left her to run for 20 mins after fitting the coils, leads and plugs yesterday. Then went for a drive to shake things down as you do.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Looks can be deceptive as I discovered with my adjusting bolts as they looked not too bad. The bolts have a groove down each side which matches lugs on the graduated washers so that they turn. The second function they fulfil is to conduct moisture along their length causing the central bush and the bolt to rust together.SmuttyHutty wrote: ↑Sat Jan 23, 2021 2:22 pmI've just looked under my cars and the bolts and cams on the 192 are shiny and grey. Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I'd not thought of that. My thinking was about it being good for the Deblock XS to get down. But, now you mention it.....
The previous owner(s) had kept the car in the dry so hopefully it'll be fine. I won't know until I get under there and start spraying and wiggling the nuts.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Consult YouTube for videos on splitting ball joints and removing drive shaft joints from diffs. I suggest you don’t attempt to remove the pinch bolt arm from the hub, just do the tapered ball joints.Keke wrote: ↑Sun Jan 24, 2021 5:11 pmErr, yep!ChrisHolmes wrote:The rear one is somewhat heavy isn’t it?

The adjusting bolts will be your biggest challenge, especially the front ones so again scour YouTube and here for information.
It’s quite a challenge but you will learn a lot of new techniques stripping these subframes.
Also probably advisable to start a separate thread for your car so all questions and advice can be tracked easily by you.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Spoken to HME Rotary, Mike suggested we have a look at the car before jumping into a rebuild, even if the comp results are low on the rear rotor which I very much appreciated, he could have grabbed the dosh that I was/am willing to fork out for a rebuild. Hopefully will see them in a few weeks time. Next week I booked myself in for a pseudo-MOT (real one is not due until May) so I get a good idea if there's anything to sort before I go for a rebuild. Slowly it seems that the renovation project is finding it's general way and timeline. Starting to get exciting.

Mick's a decent bloke, he knows what he's doing, it's s pity he doesn't believe in the benifits of porting. He'll talk for ages about rotaries

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Thankfully I'm not thinking about porting. Planning to try and keep the car stock except for mods that make it more reliable ie BHR coils, stronger starter, etc. Done most of those already. Looking forward to popping over, just got a few things to sort before and hopefully a 100 miles trip to the garage will not be that frowned upon by then.
