Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
So after splurging some money on the rex I collected my pulleys and sump from Ryan rotary performance today, fitted the pulleys (although tensioner is still awaiting bearing) managed to get the alternator pulley off without the use of an ugga dugga, ground 2 flats on the pulley, gripped it with mole grips and hit socket a few times with a hammer, whilst in there I notice the current tensioner bearing, although not rough, it is on its downwards slope, as is the water pump bearing, its not leaking but there is a bit of play and you can actual spin the pulley and momentum keeps it spinning a little, a sure sign of wear, as a good bearing actually has a resistance to spinning. So orders a new water pump from ecp

So purpley. One of the things I've been recommended since my rebuild is purple coolant. No idea what it does but I instantly thought of your car when it was mentioned!

Yes the uprated oil pressure regulator is going in once the sump is out. Was discussing it with Carl this morning. Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Put my track wheels and 1144 pads back on yesterday ready for Snetterton on Wednesday. I found the rear calipers were seized and spent a while trying to remove them, at one point even trying a club hammer to (gently) knock them free.
Then remembered I'd left the handbrake on!
Thought I was past those simple errors. More fool me!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Are you just fitting the 1144 Pads for track and then running standard pads the rest of the time? I wouldn’t recommend this as the disc surface becomes “conditioned” during the bedding in process of the new pads. Swapping already bedded in, conditioned, pads for other compound bedded in pads may not provide you with optimal braking performance.New Duke wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 10:51 amPut my track wheels and 1144 pads back on yesterday ready for Snetterton on Wednesday. Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Thanks Chris. I wouldn't normally swap pads frequently. Normally the 1144s would stay on the car, but at Xmas I had a premonition that for some reason there might be a 7 month wait between track events. So I stuck a set of cheaper pads on to save using up the 1144s on trips 'to buy essentials officer'. Fresh 1144s went on the front (the second set of the ones you kindly supplied) and I'm reusing the rears. They'll stay on the car until they wear out which at this rate won't be long. I'm going to need more of them very soon.... hint hintChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Mon Jun 15, 2020 1:16 pmAre you just fitting the 1144 Pads for track and then running standard pads the rest of the time? Both are 5x114.3 but I think hub hole has to be wider for the RX8.

When torqueing up the spacers I tightened them to what seems more than the wheel torque but no click, it clicks tightening the wheel nuts?

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
What type of studs are in the spacers. Same design as the wheel studs with a rear flange or just screwed in from the front face if the latter then the torque is less.
I just reread your post and the above is blx and cannot apply to your scenario!

The original Workshop Manual spec for the wheel nuts was 88-118 Nm but this was revised as part of Service Bulletin No: 02-002/04 to 147 Nm, for the 18" alloys, along with ensuring that there's no grease on the faces of the wheel or hub.

Ordered a new set of carpet matts from Mazda. The price has more than doubled since I last bought some in 2017. Today it cost £45 plus VAT

Think when I brought a set (12 years ago) they were around £50 maybe more. On a plus side, today I purchased both drive belts and 5 litres of fl22 for £70 from mazda (I believe the fl22 alone can be around £40)

As with all car manufacturers, the retail parts prices are reviewed (every month for Mazda) based on stock levels and perceived demand.
Some of the larger dealer chains also buy-in products like mats from aftermarket sources, complete with Mazda branding, and sell for whatever they like.

Sounds about right, I rang my local for a price on FL22 the other day, they quoted around £45 + VAT
