You'd be surprised at how small a movement needs to be to be abrasive with the slightest amount of dirt. The same very small movement that you may not notice over and over again is what'd wear through paint eventually.

I was trying to find the thread* where a member had a cover, very much like that one, where the water wicked through the lining and got trapped against the paintwork.

This left big patches of white bloom and some blistering of the surface; over £2k to rectify the damage.

It may take specific weather conditions to cause this effect but I wouldn't trust it.

*The thread must have been while we were still having to run housekeeping routines on the server, to prune dead threads and manage resources. This is a shame as a lot of good stuff has been lost.

Finnish splitting out the coils, throttle body and air temp MAF cables by re-wrapping the unwrapped main sections and the three new sections. Changed the injectors to blue secondaries, auxiliaries and yellow primaries. Removed the oil filter sandwich plate and sensors.

Just cancelled the order! I'll keep the cover on the 192 because it is already on and it does protect the car from the cats. They do so much damage with their claws and paws. But the PZ is next to a wall and is fairly well protected, and the cats don't bother with it.

Booked myself in for CSK Automotive for a full on rust prevention treatment. Sadly they only take bookings from 3rd of March onwards so it will be followed up by my rebuild which I'm aiming to have at the end of March. Should have a fancy new-ish car by April. :mrgreen:

I also gotta have a general MOT-esque checkup, maybe wheel alignment. I noticed that the front wheels are really noisy but not sure if it's my tyres or the bearing/bushings are going, it's much much quieter on smooth road surface. Had full set of Goodyear Eagle F1Asymmetric 5 tyres fitted last January, but have a feeling they're too hard despite being rated at 70db (only drove like 2k miles since thanks to lockdowns). Felt less grippy on Bedford track back in January than the previous tyres (Continental front/not sure what cheaper stuff on the rear).

Just back from Tuned in Llay.👍
Suspension ride height set up all round , back raised 20mm and the car drives much better.👍
Bad news is the the car needs new rear arms and bushes, as they are beyond repair without risking damage so may as well just get them sorted now.😪
Current settings are within specs so no need to remove from the road. 👍
Good news Tuned can do all the work then set it up for fast road.👍
I dont hesitate in recommending Rich at Tuned, tells it how it is and can transform a car, 👍👍

Mazda only supply the arms complete with bushes and therefore don’t list the bushes separately. If it’s just the bushes that are worn then rebushing with soft grade polybushes is an option but even then a full set of rear arm bushes can set you back north of £250 and then you have the labour for the job on top so you could be looking at £700+ for the job.
I must ask the question, as they say everything is within tolerance why are the arms beyond repair?

I assume they mean that they assume that they couldn't adjust them, if they needed to, without destroying them.

All the bolts and nuts are seized on and wont come apart without risking snapping the bolt.

Literally just got the quote off Tuned

Bolt Kit £43.06
Super Pro Bushes - £45.83
Total cost for parts £88.89 inc vat

Dont need new arms, I got the wrong end of the stick 🤯
Replacing bushes and hardware then 4 wheel alignment and set up.
Quote is half what I expected given no need for arms.
Just asked if its worth replacing Drop links and asked him to order them if he feels its worthwhile.

Pilot sport 3 all round as well.

To be honest if the job had have been north of £700 that is the sort of money I expected, it will be around that with the tyres so happy days.
The money I have already spent on the car means I have no option but to bow to all its needs.
In the long run I aim to replace the subframes and all the associated parts, as and when funds allow.
The best part of today was getting told by someone who spends a lot of time under cars, that the car is solid underneath, that gives me confidence that I have the right car.

My other issue is that the RRP COF needs a hose with ID of 10mm and these 2 stroke tanks have tubes with ID of 5mm. I know I can get step up connectors but that is an ugly solution unless I can hide the connector somehow.

Maybe the RRP tank solution to go with your COFS adapter?

I get that its rather expensive, although for what you get, that is all billet machined parts its actually very good value.

Those US plastic tanks will not last forever and I've have a few folk bin that to buy this after the tanks have failed, usually by the cap.

Gave the rx8 an intermediate clean today, 40 miles a day on the motorways makes for a dirty rex, used auto finesse's dynamite as a tfr then my jet wash have pretty good results

I took the PZ out for a 20 mile jaunt. Done 80 miles on a quarter of a tank so far......oooooo I might join the club!

Plugged it in to the battery charger when I got home and also removed the cover from the 192. All this talk of destroyed paint work has spooked me so I am going to risk exposure to the elements over sandpaper scratching. Mind you, it makes taking either car out a little easier as it is just unplug and play now.

So I had been battling an ongoing ess fault code 335, would be there some times, disappear other times, had replaced the sensor, cleaned the connector and earth connections as well, replaced the battery and starter motor and it was still there, swapped out a noisy secondary air pump last Friday and since then the cel has gone and so far not returned, wonder if the failing pump was pulling the voltage down on start up(the code would only set in start up and could be cleared without returning once stated, until the next start)

So with my alignment booked in... Ive spent the last 24hrs trying to "persuade" the Left Front lower control arm cam bolts free... Not hopeful so have just drowned the buggers with the remaining deblock xs I had left...now it's up to the gods I guess....

Is it worth banging a few Dms out on FB Marketplace to people breaking their cars to see if you can pick one up just in case? If it is not needed then I would guess that a member may well need one in the near future.
