From my experience of a courtesy car I had years ago before the rx8, the mini cooper S (fitted with super charger) just span up the front wheels in all but ideal weather if the traction control was off, if it was on it just cut the power. In damp or wet conditions I would imagine the rx8 being rear wheel drive would have a traction advantage and actually be able to put the power down better.

Replaced front and rear brake discs and pads, then replaced rear anti roll bar drop links.
Checked for codes because the CEL came on yesterday and got P0661 and P0076, think this maybe out of my ability to fix so need to find a garage near to me who could have a look.
That's not too difficult to do, chances are it's the middle solenoid behind/under the upper intake manifold, the solenoid should cost around £20 for a decent one on eBay and I can remove the intake manifold in around 30-40 minutes, if your struggling to find anyone who can do this I'm not a million miles away in Coventry(I'm not a qualified mechanic but have worked on a few owners cars along with my own and know what I'm doing)
With these codes you'll probably notice a flat spot from around 4.5k to just over 6k revs

If, like me, you have quite skinny hands you can swap the solenoid without the need to remove anything else.
I really really wish my hands were skinny enough... I've dropped those rear bolts on the UIM enough times while having to use UJ's and extensions on the socket to undo 'em glad i've got a good magnet stick thing to retrieve them after pulling off the intake ha!

Thanks for the offer Paul, I would be grateful if you could take a look at it for me
You wouldn’t happen to have a link to the part that’s required would you?
Put battery back on the car and started it but throttle only goes from 1500 tickover to 2000 not responsive at all, any ideas

Replaced the black plastic elbows for the vacuum pipes into the intake as I broke one the other day then swapped a split steering gaiter with as replacement from gsf, it's one of those universal ones not overly impressed as it's meant to fit the car but I would say it's not a good fit, had to stretch the large end onto the rack, what a faf, still is on ready for the mot next month

Sorted disconnect battery then reconnect

Picked the car up from the body shop and had my first deflood experience as it didn't start off the jumper leads first time - it'd been there a week and they just pushed it in and out as they didn't want to risk flooding it themselves, so I knew the battery would be flat.
Took a few attempts but got there in the end
CEL popped up on the way home though, will have to check that after work...
Drove it back home from Boston Rotary with a brand spanking new engine and started running it in. It's so good.
As well as a new engine (which included lots of little bits) it has new:
Koyo radiator
Clutch
Oil cooler lines
Coils
A massive thanks to bigpete for doing all of the work to his usual very high standard, and for giving good advice.
Thanks also to Clive for supplying the engine from Mazda Japan, checking and packaging it, and very kindly delivering it all the way to Boston. As well as also giving guidance from his extensive experience.
And thank you to Rick for giving the engine that was taken out a home.
Another really good RX8OC community experience.

Good to hear you're back on the road again Haydn! I bet you're itching to get through those run in miles and give it a beep ha!

Thank you, I'm happy just feeling it at low revs for now. I'd missed feeling even that having an electric rental. A beep in a few weeks will blow my mind
