Check along the top where the clear meets lens meets the housing. I noticed on mine a crack forming from what I can only assume was ice. That same area is where the ones I took apart split at the knock so it's a week point.Elmotheewokking wrote:Resealed a taillight yesterday when I noticed it had water collected inside after a lovely rain filled day.

Also, sometimes it's the body seam just above the lights that can go as well - then the water goes inside the boot then in through the bulb holders. The things are a liability!Elmotheewokking wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 6:22 pmResealed a taillight yesterday when I noticed it had water collected inside after a lovely rain filled day.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Gauges are now in! Wiring up and drilling the dash a little was the task at hand yesterday. I managed to find a little spot that was ideal for taking my wires through and got one wire for each gauge in, with water temp coiled up at the front of the engine bay with spare left ready for when I fit that I ran them through the little enclosure above the wheel arch and cable tied it all up where I could to keep them neat and stop any pulling, and you can't see them at all in the engine bay when all back together
Drilling the dash was interesting, as I wanted to only drill the top vent, but the car being how it is - there is a big slab of glass in the way of that called the windscreen so that was a no-go. Decided on drilling up through the circle vent after removing the surround panel so I could get a better angle, and the vent when re-installed covers that hole too, so the net result of one hole is the same anyways.
While I was at it and had the front bumper and headlights out, I swapped my dipped bulbs for new ones, and while it didn't make much if any change in range, it's made everything in the beam light up brighter, so overall a win
Also, I have now realised that the pressure in the R3 is quite high, thought it was odd that the gauge was pegged at 7bar anywhere above 4k RPM really, and a quick google later I remember that the oil pressure was upped for the S2? Others seem to be quoting the figures of around 11 bar maximum at WOT so i'm not sure what to do yet as I think I need to look into a new gauge that has a larger range really to get the most out of it. but then I think i'll be running into difficulty of keeping them the same
Temp seems all good though, hanging pretty steady at 100-105C pre-cooling after a long drive. The readings and how the gauges respond seem to be all ok, just getting used to them now

I had a set in shadow chrome on a breaker of mine a few years back and was pleasantly surprised. They look OEM enough not to stand out too much, but still look special. Very niceacejase wrote: ↑Fri Jul 09, 2021 11:53 pmPicked up after a few nights away from home for an alloy refurb. After much deliberation, I decided on a colour change from the standard anthracite to shadow chrome. I had my doubts about moving away from stock, but I think it was worth it, the finish complements the chrome-y tones of Aluminum Silver quite nicely.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Yeah, S2 pressure is a fair chunk higher than the S1, which is why you shouldn't fit an S1 oil filter to an S2 due to the bypass pressure of the S1 filter being too low.HarSc wrote: ↑Mon Jul 12, 2021 9:09 pmAlso, I have now realised that the pressure in the R3 is quite high, thought it was odd that the gauge was pegged at 7bar anywhere above 4k RPM really, and a quick google later I remember that the oil pressure was upped for the S2? Ahemmmm! Chris, I'm on 95,000 miles give or take, daily use, for the first 6 years I was only covering 5-6k per year, then it increased, I'm now doing 800 miles a month just backwards and forwards to work, not including social diving.

Been watching a bunch of detailing YouTube videos (I’m told I’m sad by my daughters) and they have revolutionised the way I wash the cars now. Makes it hard when I don’t have a driveway or garage, but all good. Where there’s a will, there’s a way…

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I stripped the seats out ahead of a Snetterton track day on Monday. Less for weight reduction and more because my toolbox is too tall to fit in the boot. I've now uncovered all the kids crumbs that need vacuuming.
I'd forgotten that unplugging the passenger seat airbag would illuminate the instrument cluster warning light. Which is distracting as I assume it's meant to be. Does anyone know of a simple way to switch off the warning light? Other than putting the seat back in of course

Fitting a 2ohm resistor is supposed to cure this but it didn’t on my car!
