Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Put back on the random fixings I'd removed. Then took out my Typhoon (sniff), cut up an old air duct from a 192 and fitted it in the gap between the ram scoop and battery tray.
Then I fitted the stock airbox and secured the duct segment to it with a couple of self tappers. Thanks to Dave for his guide in the Revi scoop thread.
Then whipped off my front bumper and removed the centre blanking plate to increase flow to the scoop.
Disconnected the battery to reset the fuel trims and then drove it after a 10 minute idle.
I'd forgetten how quiet the stock airbox is, even with a K&N panel filter. But the last time Carl mapped my car was with the stock airbox on. So I'm going to try to get used to it. I'm putting the Typhoon in the garage for now... not in the bin.

Speaking with an engine builder back in Wanganui NZ. I couldn't for the life of me find any decent 20Bs around. So spoke to Gareth at home. He and Warren build for Mike Widdet.30405 wrote:Ermmm just dropping that casually.... We need details man!sKenDread wrote: Still saving for the racing car project

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Some little jobs done today:
- Ghetto glovebox damper repair.
- Cabin air filters changed (can actually feel the air con now!)
- Second hand 4 button remote paired (got 2 X new bodies/blades on order now)
Also going to CAD up and 3D print a replacement driver's footwell mat retainer this evening.

What type of key bodies did you pick up new? Been looking around for the visteon 41585 shell as my buttons are a bit worn, but everywhere seems to do the red button ones not the black boot popper ones, and the battery location/button sizes are differentBarbedWire wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 5:08 pmSome little jobs done today:

And on the mat retainer front, i'm sure there are an abundance of them in parts cars that people will be selling - I wouldn't think they'd charge the earth for one as it'll just pop in an envelope

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I'm not sure on the other RX-8 keys or ones for early models, but mine is like on the 4th image with the different battery position, and in that case it won't work... and then I tried to swap the buttons at least to my current shell but that doesn't work either as they're different depths Might well be different to yours as mines an R3 key (might be the same, I have no reference point for that though )BarbedWire wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 6:43 pmI go these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353428693037

I think at this point i've resorted to waiting until a decent condition one pops up for reasonable money, not like, £60 that the last 41585 sold for really quick on eBay. Seems like the key I have is the rocking horse sh*t out of them all hah! will have to dabble with forscan to see if I can do it myself when I finally get another key

Mine's a 2006. Buttons are all black on the original key I have, and the second hand on I picked up. Buttons are shagged on both. I'll post up once I've got the new bodies and had a go at swapping the innards.HarSc wrote:I'm not sure on the other RX-8 keys or ones for early models, but mine is like on the 4th image with the different battery position, and in that case it won't work... and then I tried to swap the buttons at least to my current shell but that doesn't work either as they're different depths Might well be different to yours as mines an R3 key (might be the same, I have no reference point for that though )BarbedWire wrote: ↑Sun May 09, 2021 6:43 pmI go these: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/353428693037

EDIT: worth saying, that I actually had a fairly positive experience with the Halfords Autocentre in Evesham. A very flexible and level headed team of people... I'm shocked just writing it!
Now to tax it and actually drive it! Road test against the R3 is next on the to do list!
