Useful info WC, thanks! Did notice the exchange rate was somewhat ‘preferable’ for PP.

I have a PayPal invoice from Japan that will convert to £1167 approximately, I have not paid it just yet as the skinflint side of me is holding back. There will then of course be some import charges on top of that.

I really like my bronze wheels now, they look a bit goldy in the pic I posted I think. I got them done locally at a place I use regularly (wheelWork in Maidenhead) , it was more than I usually pay due to the dearer paint so just under £300 iirc.

A public Thanks to Dr. Frankenrex btw as he put me on to this set of wheels - £400 with a brand new set of Rainsports - bargain!
They do look great, but need some spacers methinks... Forgot how deep in the wheel well the R3 wheels sit since I've had my track wheels on it for so long.
Yeeeeaaaahhh. spacers undoubtedly improve the looks but any RX-8 I have driven with them I have felt drives slightly worse, perhaps just my imagination 🤷‍♂️

The increase in track is the only theoretical dynamic benefit, but it's just that - "theoretical" and no actual benefit can be measured.
Meanwhile, there's a significant increase in unsprung weight, which compromises the grip and NVH, plus moving the contact patch further out changes the forces on the steering and reduces the effective spring rate of the suspension, working the dampers even harder.

All-in-all, spacers are about style.

My 8 has aftermarket wheels with an offset equivalent to 23mm spacers, so much of that still applies to me too  :D

Obviously it all depends on what you're trying to achieve. I enjoy the stance offered by spacers, but I also go for a marginally wider track at the front than the rear to achieve a slightly more eager turn-in and a willingness to rotate on throttle. It's only marginal, but it made a decent difference to me.

My track wheels are the equivalent to a 25mm spacer so when I go back to the R3 wheels it just looks... odd.

Wow! £1,167 + import duties is punchy ! The headlights do look great, though. Looking forward to seeing how they turn out with the black bodywork if you drop the cash on them.

Thanks for the Wheelworkz recommendation. Maidenhead isn't too far from me. I rang up Primo Alloys in Woking a couple of weeks ago and, as they requested, followed up with an email for a quote detailing what I was after with pics etc., but they never got back to me :-k.

That's why for normies like me I think that Dan's method of opening the stock R3 ones and painting them is a good route. What I'd love is for one enterprising club member to start offering it as a service. I don't have the attention to detail to do a good job of it myself. It's one of two external mods I want on the car, then I'd be happy with it's looks.

Damn glad I've got the 20mm japspeeds all round on mine  they look super clean with the body line although they've got like, only 5mm clearance to the arch liners at full lock on the front edge   never come into contact, they've been perfect, I only noticed when I was taking photos the other day hah!

New front discs fitted, calipers rebuilt, assembled, bled, and now I'm sitting on a slope following warpc0il's advice for bleeding the master (although I should just bleed the master since it has a nipple, but I'm out anyway). Brakes work good but feel is still softer than it should be - I'm not sure if ended up with air further up the system as I left the hoses to hang with a glove over them.

Still, massive progress.

I have a 'Curve' card which uses the current FX exchange rate so there is no crap exchange rate at all. I use it whenever buying internationally and especially using Paypal.

Worth looking into as it doesnt cost anything at all and also has some other useful features

Took the first load of wheels up to City for refurb and powder coat

Internet points for the first person to guess the exact number of wheels I managed to squeeze in the A6 - hint, 2 of them did not have tyres on.

One of them is a spare that's wibbley and bent - gonna get it painted as its so cheap and then get it made in to a table.

Brake pedal travel is still too far before the brakes bite, so I'll bleed the fronts (again) as well as the master tomorrow, then the rears if it's still not good, then after that I guess I'll probably need to look at cycling the ABS unit (or whatever the process is).

The brakes engage well and pull up fine, they're just too soft underfoot. Pulling to the left slightly too... so maybe the right has air in it still.

Going back to collect. They're busy and I'm in no rush for them - 2 week turnaround time.

Not too bad, though, as they're only an hour from me. I've got another 12 to take up there soon as well
