The Achilles heel of the oil pipes is only the area of the quick fit connectors and as you have replaced that section then don't worry about the other pipes as they are not exposed to corrosive elements unlike the n/s front joint section.carnut1974 wrote: ↑Tue Nov 27, 2018 10:23 pmAnother job done for the day.
Fitted a replacement, oil cooler pipe to the left side today, after it decided to dump itself on my drive on Sunday morning.
Luckily I had left it idle first - then as I drove off I noticed the oil lamp permanently illuminated.
So I switched the engine off, checked the level - dropped below minimum.
As I topped it up - and checked underneath - I notice the leak from the left hand front underside.
I knew then it was a cooler pipe or cooler concern.
All done and fixed now though!
Next job are the rear sills - as appears to be the usual for these.
Then start planning to replace the other cooler pipes at some point.
What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Fitted some Hawk HPS pads to the front after reading a long thread about pads on the US RX8 forum.
Hopefully will be better than my current ones, fitting them was a breeze in comparison as my last pads I had to file down to get them in whereas these slipped right in. Still have the fit some BBK Brembo's from an Evo-X, now I've got PZ rims they should hopefully fit under them and not foul.

Just what I'm looking for, but I bet that cost a bit. Do you have link to the FB page?

Hopefully it contains all the baffles as per the oem, to provide the necessary liquid/vapour/air separation.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Not finished yet, just having my tea then back to do other side (it's 4:30am) . I work nights and sleep in the day so it's a pain to get time to work on the car. Especially since its only in the car park so weather permits also.
Was gonna try get all done at same time but... I don't have time... So stuck to doing same arms each side to minimise what ever forces they control.
Also put old coils coils back on as won't get chance to fit rrp's till Tues if they get delivered Sat.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
After my low comp test result and slow starting issues I bought a 14 tooth "sticking plaster" and fitted it this afternoon. Removing the current starter revealed this
On went the new one and the cold start was almost instant followed after a short run to get the engine up to temperature by an equally as quick hot start, result.
Checking the cranking speed via the OBD showed 333rpm.
Now the questions are;
1) Was it a slow starter all along?
2) Was the comp test accurate?
Time will tell!

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
If it was a cheap starter before then the spinning rpm could have been highly variable.
This would have made compression test results suspect and impacted starting.
I recall Clive telling me a few years ago about a wholesaler trying to get MRP to stock some really dodgy 14T starters.
He checked the sample they provided and turned them away.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
None at all but I think there had been a gradual decline due to the coils. Josh commented that the torque was the lowest he had seen.
The butt dyno tells me it's smoother and pulls better with the replaced coils. If it does have mechanical issues then continued running plus Brands Hatch on the 7th November may finish it off but as there are no mechanical sounds coming from the engine then I think it's going to last, hopefully not famous last words!

Sold it
Wasn’t planning to but an opportunity came up to return a very good price for it and a new addition to the family means the money is handy.
It has ended up in France so I am not expecting any sympathy from anyone!
Will be on the lookout for another in the not too distant future though so it is just a break not a full separation!

Made an impromptu visit to indigo-gt today who were running a dyno open day. A local mapping and performance car building centre just down the road from me.
Loads of cars with some big figures
And then there was mine lol
Great experience though. Did feel a bit sorry for her being put through the torture of three runs

It’s only available in Black currently. It also doesn’t look like the same shade of Blue and Nick did a great job of cleaning up the standard undertray.
