Apologies, I wasn’t sure what you were saying & took it the wrong way. I hadn’t even thought about the insulation getting into the seat fibres. I was just impressed with what I managed to get into the car.
What have you done to your RX-8 today????

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Drained the FL22 coolant. Flushed it through 3 times until it came out clear. Then fresh FL22 back in.
I hadn't started it for a couple of weeks. So gave it a short drive to warm it up at the beginning of the day. But there was no power steering (dash light on) and the speedo stayed at zero. I had washed it before putting it away, maybe that's a factor.
Anyway all was fine after a restart. That car always punishes me when I don't drive it for a week or more.

Just the chance of that insulation getting in the fibres of the seats
You’ll be itching like hell for a long time
I hate the stuff , just used lots of it over the years in construction.

After using it as a van on Saturday I cleaned it on Sunday. The frost was still on it when I got to work.

I'm going to do the same with my credit card company. It's been over a month since I had an email confirming the order. No reply to my message to JDM quoting the order number. Really mad.

Took eldest out for a quick spin in rx8 before dropping her at brownies.
Unfortunately I am now sat in a car that doesn't want to start
Going to give it another 15 minutes and then retry
Got booster pack with me so hopefully she will start once she has cooled a bit

I didn't want to pay over £300 for a different kind of vibration plus I need a starter motor too.PaulAV wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 5:41 pmI already have the RRP engine mounts, but I would rather OEM levels of vibration at 1500 rpm(looking to civilise the car just s little)rotatopotato wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 5:13 pmThe RRP mounts that I ordered arrived two days later...

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Don't get me wrong, the RRP engine mounts are pretty good at most revs, it's just around 1500-1800 they give a bit of vibration, at idle I can balance a 50p coin on the oil filler cap with them fitted, but OEM mounts will just be more civilised (I can just about remember the car with them when it was new)

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The RRP mounts do give a few vibrations with them being stiffer around the 1500 rpm mark however Don't really notice it unless I'm stuck in traffic (Passengers notice it a lot more than me) plus I love seeing the nice flashy red when looking down where my airpump use to be xD

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I'm completely in the dark about the science behind engine mounts. To me they just look like door stops that the engine sits on. Why are they so expensive and why do the RRP ones vibrate at all? It was RRP who suggested mine had gone and eventually I'd lose gears. So I psyched myself up to get them changed but JDM have let me down.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Engine mounts need to be stiff enough to hold the engine in place, but they also need to reduce the vibration that the engine creates, some materials have the ability to absorb vibrations(like rubber) but only specific frequencies, a softer rubber may help at some rpm"s a harder rubber at other rpm"s unfortunately no one harness suits all, Mazda developed an engine mount that is filled with fluid that passes through and around a plastic insert, the fluid helps to bridge the gap between what the rubber hardness can eliminate and what is left, a bit like a shock absorber(there is some resistance to the fluid traveling around the plastic insert) RRP have used a specific hardness of rubber to meet most of the requirements, some companies use polyurethane, this has some advantages but also it has some disadvantages, it tends to be harsher. The way vibration propagates through the material used is very complex.

I think the same! (Tho good explanation Paul)RichT_Derby wrote: ↑Mon Nov 29, 2021 9:16 pmI'm completely in the dark about the science behind engine mounts. To me they just look like door stops that the engine sits on.
Bigpete noticed my 2nd set of mounts look saggy. The cars only done 80k miles. Would explain why I can't engage 3rd gear over 8k rpm though.
Now I need to decide whether to replace them with JDM Planet ones, RRP ones, or just leave it and change into 3rd before 8k.
I dunno!

Thanks for the explanation it makes more sense now. At the moment I can shift into 2nd and 3rd from redline, but as I've said previously the idle is rough at a standstill. I've contacted JDM via PayPal too so fingers crossed.

Hi Chris,ChrisHolmes wrote: ↑Sun Nov 28, 2021 10:13 amIts best to remove the pulley before pulling the engine out so you have more forward space. It’s my first time doing this so wish me luck guys
Unfortunately I bent my pulley a bit, tried hammering it back down but it just wouldn’t work. Don’t think that this would be loving life at 10.000RPM
Will continue stripping the engine down tomorrow. Can’t wait for my engine hoist to arrive so I can finally pull it out next weekend
I have a spare pulley I wont be using so do you need me to send it as a Christmas gift which should avoid any importing costs. Just postage to pay.
I did actually remove the pulley before pulling the engine out (it's still in the car atm, will finally pull it this weekend) as I figured it would be impossible to pull the engine with the pulley still on. Unfortunately I did damage it while prying it of. If I could have your pulley that would be more than awesome. I'll figure out postage tonight and DM you then
Regards

MOT today, and steering failed as it wants to go left at the slightest provocation on the ramp. You can drive it OK, but it's definitely noticeable.
Suggestions, please?
