Fitted new clutch today it was fairly easy due to having the use of some ramps feels a million times better, I also wrapped the silver strips on the center console in carbon vinyl looks a lot better.

Fitted the Rotary Revs Magnecor D585 coil kit today. Instructions don't have the pictures that are refered to and lead to the right means what exactly? There is also a not mentioned large convoluted plastic tube running along the edge of the original coils bracket which I had to bend down to get the ignition leads onto the coils. Being picky here really but mortals with fewer mechanical knowledge etc; would struggle.
Photos of the old coils, plugs and leads, one coil has the dreaded white spot so definitely worth doing.
I carried out the ECU reset of 20 brake pedal pushes but the oil pressure needle did not move. I read so where though that a later ECU version flash if installed does not have the needle movement indication so not too bothered about that.
So what happened when I went to start the engine, exactly that after 2 secs and the engine settled to a really smooth idle. Left it to warm up and gradually the refs dropped to 825rpm according to the OBD rev counter. The idlle was really smooth compared to before, not surprising looking at the sooty black plugs and the White spotted coil.
Been out for little run now and it certainly feels smoother and quicker, especially over 6000rpm.
Also fitted Lockwood Grills yesterday but no photos as the stick on number plate letter spacing is too embarrassing!!! But they look great.
Run to Bournemouth tomorrow will be the first long run since I bought it two months and 600 miles ago, a leap of faith?

Replaced the battery in the switchblade key..

and unusually,didn't have to re-program the lock/unlock functions :-k

On my Vectra,a battery change meant having to reassign the key to the car,for the remote central locking to operate..

I like that, but with the camber in the road here I reckon it would not last till I got the car out. Will explore though when I get a new acrylic plate

Braved the cold and washed mine for the first time. It never ceases to amaze me how much this first going over reveals, literally. I now know every paintwork flaw, though thankfully most can be sorted with a proper detail come the Spring. It's also a great way to appreciate the design details that I didn't take in at first - I especially love the subtle curves of the roof and the way water pools in the V of the bonnet!

Seen here posing with the 5 it's replacing, washed and ready for sale. Shame I can't justify keeping it, not a bad two car garage really!

Well spotted, that's my mum's driveway in balmy Warwickshire . Not bothered about the palm, but I wish driveways were a more common sight in South Norwood, hate parking/washing on the mean streets of London.

Started it to see how it was in a -5'C frost and it started with a just couple of extra secs. Gradually starting to feel the car is reliable. Next test is a run to Bournemouth this afternoon, and then back via Guildford of the 31st

lovely lovely! both rx8 and mx5..

also dont feel the car is unreliable, took mine from bournemouth to lydden hill and back and never missed a beat...

only thing it did miss was the plastic wheel liners as they decided to fly off going 70mph lmao ..that was my fault though.

New set of coils finally fitted, after relieving a fellow member of them along with the spark plugs I fitted months ago, done without removing any other part from the engine-bay than the engine cover! Nimble fingers me. ;)

New grills look really good actually!

I sorted out my boot courtesy at long last. Took a bit of fishing around but managed to find it and pop it back where it belonged after disappearing into the speaker/amplifier plate in the rear.

Hopefully on the weekend I can check over the engine mounts - I've got my MoT and tax next Friday.
To do list
  • Check engine mounts and diy recon if necessary.
  • PDR on vehicle due to car park idiots.
  • Repair/Recondition Alloys.

I swapped my headunit out for an earlier firmware one so I can finally have my xcarlink and bluetooth back. :)

Took the opportunity whilst I was there to run a 12v and a dimmer circuit wire for my gauge/nexus/sub install, some of which I might attempt tomorrow with Phil as a spare pair of hands. :)

Slight complication in that the PZ has different coloured HVAC control knobs, so ended up swapping the radio fascia over to retain the individuality, which meant it was pitch black by the time I finished. Installing a headunit in the dark isn't fun.
