The AEM whistle is one of my favourite things about mine
...today I filled up the tank in preparation for a drive tomorrow, only to discover when I got home that the passenger footwell is soaking wet. Def not water ingress from rain, no smell but it feels a little greasy so I'm guessing it's coolant which I'm guessing means a leaking heater
Just when I thought I was ready for a full summer of enjoying the car.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Gave it a wash again... At this point I regret leaving it at home as each time I come back it manages to get even more swirl marks that I’m going to have to try and buff out...... thanks to my dads efforts of trying to clean it every so often with waterless wash (and a dirty cloth apparently). Could be worse I guess as I was planning to buff and polish it all before simply jap in July

Dad's eh
My Dad would use a single bucket and, while he'd start at the top and work down to the wheels/sills, and even make sure not to drop his sponge in the gravel, he'd always end the wash cycle by emptying the remains in the bucket over the roof

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Fitted the new spark plugs finally just before a shoplifting trip to Chester.
Last set did 8k, must admit did find a little more spirit in her today, but I think it's one of those times where you would have to properly know your car to know there was a difference, could also be just in the mind, the hot weather may have made a difference but unlikely as cold air not hot is required for any small increase in performance I believe.
Anyway another job ticked off the list.
New diff oil later this week, and another wash required as she is still oozing from last week's visit to Krown.

MOT passed after failing on tyres and side lights last Friday. Yes I know I should've checked beforehand.
Changed the bulbs out and put brand new THICK Yokohama AD08RS's on my 9.5j wheels; had to do some arch rolling as a result.

Had a posh new coil, leads and plugs fitted after the car up and died on me last week. While in had a complete fluid change. Gotta say, gearbox is smoother... Also fitted these snazzy bonnet struts while I had a spare ten minutes

Helped my sister move into her new nail salon today, was surprised by how much fitted in the back of the 8, suicide doors really helped. Next trip we only took the Jag and someone came out from one of the other shops and asked me where the posh white car had gone as he really liked the look and sound of it, I've never had it called the posh white car before haha

Diff oil changed, that's the last of the Essentials finished, the state of the oil suggests it has never been done, but another box ticked.
Off to a car and coffee meet on Sunday morning, been invited by a friend who loves his MX5's and has a bright orange limited edition that's about a year old.
It's the meet before he starts his chemotherapy which with other complications may see him out of the scene for a while, wishing him all the best and already looking forward to the post op meet, where we can have a well deserved pint to celebrate

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Haven't done much to it, someone else did...woke up to this.
Nobody saw or heard a thing, that includes me and the car parks under my window. It went a metre backwards with parking brakes on. Thankfully it seems it's just the panels and the headlight, no damage to the oil cooler or anything major to the crash bar.
Already got a lot of help from the FB page and part offers, think the only thing I'm missing is the front wing. Hoping to get it sorted next weekend. 700 miles in on a new engine this is beyond frustrating.
Update: Found two neighbours who saw what happenned, will witness and got the car who did it too, got photos and reg number.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Not yet. I've just spoken to the guy. Conversation went really quickly from "why were you taking photos of my car?! You didn't see it, got no proof" to "hey man, I'm here I ain't running away, we can sort this". Swapped names, numbers, address, said he can pay me in cash at the end of the month on payday or we can go through insurance. I'm pretty usre insurance would write it off which I wanna avoid but oviously got no confidence that this guy deserves 4 weeks of my patience and trust.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
I'd suggest checking behind the front bumper so you can have a see what the crash bar/engine bay structure looks like. If it really took a fair shunt and moved that far its possible there maybe structural damage. After that I'd contact your insurance about it. The guy didn't leave a note or anything so was really banking on getting away with it so don't let him!
If the structural integrity of the actual chassis is in good order then second hand replacement parts shouldn't be too hard to come by (though VR so.. pointless even having it resprayed to match by the insurance anyway imo). I'd ask them about you supplying the parts and having their "body shop" fitting them up to bring the cost down. Doing that may just be the difference between a cosmetic write off or not.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
Thanks, appreciate it. Local body shop quoted 750 for labour including blending in the paintwork and if needed straightening the crash bar, having looked at it from the outside they reckon that didn't get too damaged.Yorindesarin wrote: ↑Sat Jun 05, 2021 1:03 pmI'd suggest checking behind the front bumper so you can have a see what the crash bar/engine bay structure looks like. I said to the guy that it'd be about 1k with all the parts, he just said yea sure payday end of the month I'll pay you.
Considering that his teenage daughter saw me taking photos of his car and told me I didn't see it happen so I got no proof before she called the guy I doubt that he's reliable in the least so gonna go through insurance and risk a writeoff. Dunno if police should be involved, I thought they only get involved if there is a personal injury.

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
The police should be involved due to it being "fleeing the scene of an accident" even without an injury (I think?). Honestly I'd just get VR panels and wouldn't bother having it resprayed. It won't match no matter how much blending any bodyshop does. The mica in VR just makes it impossible to get right due to being sprayed "differently", different angles, different weights of mica coming through etc.
Would just save the money for a full respray over using money to get mismatched results.

I had this happen, someone rear ended me them drove off, got the number, police were only interested if the vehicle was legal, then there was a 5 week wait whilst the insurance company tried to track down who insured the vehicle. Police didn't proceed with anything due to no injuries and no independent witness

Re: What have you done to your RX-8 today????
As far as I can remember if its a “No Fault” scenario for you then his insurer, if he has one of course, and yours in the case of a no fault accident must return your vehicle to its condition prior to the damage occurring, or replace it with an equal condition vehicle if it’s not repairable. The usual write off formulas do not apply.
As posted above you really need to inform the police and your insurers for the reason stated.

I found standing on them with zip ties fairly effective. Can be a pain to remove the zip times once done though.nightfire10 wrote:After putting the de'cat back on today (pain in the a@s)) is there a spring compressor so I can get the nuts on the rear?
