It does Graham, in fact a little weird as well. Before I swapped it I had the common problem of steering being a little stiffer when turning right. But now it’s gone and the wheel turns the same either way. Might be placebo effect, or the fact I had to bash the old one with a rubber mallet to get if off. Maybe loosened something

If you have had the stiff steering in one direction or the other, I would suggest lubricating the universal joint (spray grease and normal grease are my recommendations)

I did that soon after getting the car, also cleaned all the electrical connectors and cleaned up the earths. But it was still noticeable. Not massively but definitely slightly stiffer to the right.

How do you know the spark is weak or strong?
Try unplugging and plugging back in all the connections in case one or more are not seated correctly.

No matter how much quality control there is, components are still subject to the bathtub reliability curve*, this means that they're most likely to fail at the beginning or end of their life-cycle.

Plan today was oil and filter change but the filter is stuck fast. Tried marigolds, electric cord but it won’t budge. Any recs as to the best type of removal tool to get it off with? The replacement comes with a nice big nut on the top!

I used the chain style oil filter remove that fits a socket, only down side to this is the chain can slide down on the filter. But works fine.

Done it. Managed to borrow (at a safe social distance) a strap tool from a neighbour which finally shifted it just before the strap broke. Has any car ever been designed with an easy to reach oil filter.

Most cars have pretty easy to reach filters if they're in line 4s. 😂 As soon as you go v6 rotary v8 etc engine room gets tricky.

You could even change the oil filter element without draining the oil if you wished :yeah:

That's it right @ the front just behind the radiator/fan shroud....

Had some oil filter woes of my own today, decided I'd change the filter but the one they sent out was for the R3 instead of the S1 :x
IMG_20200507_145445.jpg
Thought I'd give it a cursory check online as it only said Mazda on the box, glad I did as the pressure relief is quite a bit higher on the R3, noticed that it was within 1 psi of my other car so decided to fit it that instead 8)

The oil filter is mounted down low and you can remove it without having to jack up up the car which is a bonus.

As Luke is doing some courier work as well as mechanics he was travelling past so adhering to social distancing he has performed some maintenance on my RX-8.

He completed a compression test which had been done 1 year ago at Silverstone not long after getting the car.

I'm pleased to say it's actually gone up, so some good maintenance and copious amounts of beeps during lots of trackdays has cleared her out a tad along with a decat and some premix.

Ill be looking to borrow someones compression tester in the near future I do hope, so I can see how its doing since last year. I know I only drove it for 6 months but I drove it like I stole it and compared to the guy who owned it before who lived in a city I must've done some good I hope!
